2023 is still a full week away, but horror movie fans already have a new offering to enjoy in just a few days. by Blumhouse M3GAN hits theaters this weekend, featuring the following film about a robotic girl named Gemma who uses the M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) doll that she designed to be a boy’s companion to care for her recently orphaned granddaughter Cady, just for things to go horribly wrong. After the first first reactions of M3GAN Released last month, Blumhouse feature reviews are coming now, so what are the reviewers saying?
Well, as previously indicated by the reactions on social media, it seems that Blumhouse has another shot on its hands, even if for some it doesn’t necessarily reach exceptional status. Initially, 24 News Bulletin’s Eric Eisenberg himself stamped M3GAN with 3.5 out of 5 stars in his review, stating that the film is full of “thrills” and “giggles” and “has an unshakable understanding of what is”, but the PG-13 rating makes the story somewhat difficult. a little.
M3GAN isn’t exactly the experience you want it to be, but its best qualities outweigh its shortcomings when you think about it. It’s a well-crafted, fun and weird experience, and a solid opening act for upcoming horror films in 2023.
Below, Mashed Up’s Kristy Puchuko raves about it M3GANcalling the robotic antagonist the next Babadook-like queer horror icon (although let’s not forget that he’s already a popular meme), and praised the film for its exploration of adult fears.
… M3GAN is a winner not only for introducing an exciting new slasher to the queer horror subgenre, but also for tapping into the deep-seated fears that grip us before they even show up.
Empire is the recipient of the Al Horner Award M3GAN a score of 4 out of 5, praising Allison Williams and Violet McGraw for their respective portrayals of Gemma and Cady, as well as the work that brought M3GAN to life, who was physically portrayed by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis.
With impressive performances from the star of McGraw and Get Out Williams and the flawless technology that brings the robot to life causing the movie havoc, M3GAN may seem silly, but it’s a toy story like no other.
Matt Donato IGN Given M3GAN a score of 7 out of 10, indicating that the 2019 remake of Child’s Play, which featured an AI version of Chucky, “worked” so that M3GAN could “tikTok dance”. Donato noted that the film doesn’t do the best job of balancing its horror and comedic tones, but the overall product is still worth a look.
M3GAN cleverly proves to be more than just a horror villain meme, even if the film struggles at times to balance horror and comedy.
Finally, Kate Erbland’s indiewire has rated M3GAN with a B+, saying the mosaic character is a joy to watch, and while the story beats “might feel predictable,” the film is ultimately a “triumph.”
Its creators are so clearly on the same crazy wavelength, deftly mixing camp and social satire with true horror, that “M3GAN” is ready to destroy the pantheon of killer dolls and stay there forever. Oscars!
We’ll have to wait and see how M3GAN is hitting the box office in the next few weeks, but if all that positive press is making it big bucks, then maybe Blumhouse and producer James Wan will consider making a M3GAN continuation. The cast of the film also includes Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Stephanie Garneau-Monten, Arlo Green and Lori Dungey. Behind the scenes, Gerard Johnstone directed and EvilAkela Cooper wrote the screenplay.
you can judge M3GAN for you from Friday 6 January. Once you’ve done that, head over to our 2023 release schedule to find out what movie you’ll be seeing in theaters.
