Outrageous claims and celebrities tend to go hand-in-hand, but when a famous person says something as crazy as it can’t possibly be true, you can often guess the validity of the statement based on the celebrity who made it. So when someone most fans love and respect says something that sounds unbelievable, you listen. So, did Jamie Lee Curtis really invent Instagram? Not really, except, sort of.
the Halloween Scream Queen has claimed, on more than one occasion, that she invented Instagram, and she repeated it during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel live , which brought the claim back to the fore. She didn’t go into detail on the show and many wonder why she would say such a thing. It seems incredible, but it turns out that the statement has much more validity than you can imagine.
buzz did the legwork on this and discovered the existence of a Blogspot site started by Jamie Lee Curtis in the summer of 2010 called iPhoneys . Curtis previously said that after she got his iPhone of him she started taking a lot of photos and thought a lot of other people were doing it too, so she created the site as a place to post the photos. The site is still up and running, so you can check when it was launched and it predates the launch of Instagram, if only by a few months.
Apparently, Curtis said that once Instagram launched, people stopped using his site, establishing yet another connection between the two, but that’s not entirely accurate. The last photos uploaded to the Blogspot site date back to early 2012, a few years after the launch of Instagram. However, the apparent demise of his site coincides with Facebook’s purchase of Instagram, which may have been the catalyst for Jamie Lee’s friends to stop using his site and move to Instagram, which is now is the site worn by all celebrities.
While I imagine claims that he invented Instagram wouldn’t hold up in court (not that he’s ever claimed to have attempted such a thing), there’s no question that Jamie Lee Curtis independently came up with the idea for an Instagram website. photo sharing which was launched earlier. on Instagram. Hedy Lamarr invented the technology behind Wi-Fi. If Jamie Lee Curtis was credited with inventing Instagram, it wouldn’t even be that bad.
If he had tried to build something bigger, and not just a photo sharing site for his friends, who knows, it might have captured more than Instagram? Who doesn’t want to be on Jamie Lee Curtis’ photo sharing site?
