Edward Norton had an illustrious ancestor. the actor ofAmerican history Xwho grew up hearing about his family’s supposed ties to the real Pocahontas, recently received confirmation that he was her direct descendant.
“Pocahontas is indeed your twelfth great-grandmother,” historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. confirmed to her on the show. find your rootsbroadcast on the American channel PBS.
“You are his direct descendant,” the facilitator assured him. “Undoubtedly”. So far, the actor seen recently in glass onion he had always believed that it was a “family legend”.
A slave-owning great-grandfather
The story of Pocahontas, which inspired a Disney cartoon, is one of America’s founding myths. The daughter of chief Powhatan, she married colonist John Rolfe in 1614 before going with him to the United Kingdom, where she died in 1617.
“We can’t go any further,” is surprised Edward Norton, who had fun studying his family’s history before appearing on the show. On PBS, he also found out that his third great-grandfather was a slave owner.
The latter owned slaves: “seven human beings” among them “five girls of 10, 9, 8, 6 and 4 years old”. “When you read this, you want to die,” Edward Norton concluded.
