TBS delays Dana White’s Power Slap series after video of UFC owner publicly slapping his wife

UFC President Dana White’s next TBS series Power Slap: off to the title It would still happen on TBS, but the network pushed back the reality series’ premiere date after a vacation video of White publicly slapping his wife became public knowledge. Warner Bros. Discovery, which has spent weeks shuffling shows and removing them from HBO Max and elsewhere, has opted to postpone the upcoming show’s premiere a week after its original premiere in an effort to further distance it from the UFC titles. President.

Power Slap: off to the title it was originally scheduled to air on TBS on Wednesday January 11th. Deadline has since announced that the premiere will now (tentatively) take place on Wednesday, January 18. This news came after initial reports that TBS had put the series on the back burner when it was pulled from the schedule on Jan. 11.

The video appeared on TMZ and elsewhere during the vacation of Dana White and his wife, Anne White, during an argument at a Cabo San Lucas club on New Year’s Eve. The video showed White’s wife slapping him, and the president of the UFC responded by slapping him on the back twice. They both made public statements about it, noting that alcohol was involved and have since apologized and explained the situation to their children.

Weather Power Slap: off to the title may still air on TBS, there is still a public hearing calling for the UFC to be held accountable for Dana White’s actions. White is one of the biggest faces associated with combat sports and is a notable enough public figure that other fighters like Jake Paul start feuding with him. The incident, regardless of apology and explanation, could encourage the UFC and even TBS to reconsider their relationship with him if public pressure continues.

Power Slap: off to the title is an eight-part series that follows fighters vying for a roster spot, top Power Slap rankings, and future fighting opportunities in the sport. The Power Slap league was co-created by Dana White in association with the UFC and involves two fighters standing facing each other who take turns slapping each other as hard as they can. The sport is based on a ten-point scoring system similar to other combat sports, with judges awarding points based on the effectiveness of the slap and the opponent’s reaction and recovery time.

The upcoming TBS series could be a huge step forward for the league and its success, assuming audiences tune in and like it. White is often credited with elevating MMA into a household name and mainstream sport, so it’s possible he could do the same for Power Slap if this latest controversy doesn’t disrupt his progress.

As if, Power Slap: off to the title it remains on the 2023 television schedule and will premiere on TBS on Wednesday, January 18. The tide could turn as Dana White continues to face public scrutiny for his actions, but for now, the show appears to be back on track.
