The film, although now the second highest-grossing film of 2022, still grossed nearly $1.5 billion and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama. I think Tom definitely deserves a Best Actor nomination. I saw Tom give a completely authentic, heartbreaking and layered performance in this film. And on top of that, he produced, he trained all the other actors to act on airplanes, and he slept in the editing room! I mean, this guy does it all. If anyone deserves his award in the film, it’s Tom and I really hope the Academy sees that. The movie is impressive on so many levels, but it all starts and ends with Tom.
So if Glen Powell made the Best Actor list, it would definitely include Tom Cruise. He believes the performance is worthy of recognition. The bigger question is whether the Academy thinks Cruise’s work is in the top five performances of the year.
Of course, much of what Glen Powell is saying here about all of Tom Cruise’s hard work Top Gun: nonconformist he is not traditionally considered when deciding on Best Actor.
