Al Roker’s wife details how things have gone in his absence to date, calling it a ‘medical mystery’

fans of the Today started the new year with good news, as it became known that the beloved meteorologist Al Roker would be back January 6th. Rocker had been out of show since November in and out of the hospital blood clots in the legs and lungs . It was certainly a scary time for the morning show favorite and his family, but apparently things were worse than we knew. Roker’s wife revealed details of what happened, saying it was a “miracle” that he survived.

ABC News reporter Deborah Roberts joined her husband on his first day back at work Friday morning, joining Al Roker and the rest of the Today the crew to talk about what had happened over the last few months. Roberts said most people were unaware of how much worse the weatherman’s situation had gotten, saying:

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that it’s very, very important to be here. He is a living, breathing miracle. It really is. And I have to say I’m not exaggerating, I don’t think so. Al was a very, very, very sick man, and I don’t think most people knew that… It was a team that had to figure out what was going on. He was a medical mystery for a few weeks and was the most tumultuous and scariest ride we have ever been on.

Al Roker revealed that he had internal bleeding, but doctors weren’t sure where it was coming from. “I lost half my blood,” she said, which she required major surgery in which she said they removed two bleeding ulcers, resected her colon, and removed her gallbladder. .

It’s scary to hear how terrible Al Roker’s condition was and, apparently, how close he was to not coming out of it. However, Deborah Roberts shared a funny story about her when she said she knew her husband would make it through. She said:

After going through all of that… Al had a lot of tests, a lot of endoscopes, I mean, there was a lot to do, and surgery, major, major. We were on pins and needles every day and I kept everyone in the loop, our family, all of you. And Al and I were sitting there one day in the hospital, and in a very hoarse voice, and he was so haggard and exhausted, he said, ‘I’m going to make a turkey stir-fry for Christmas.’

The whole team laughed when Deborah Roberts recalled that she had hoped he would live until Christmas thinking about his turkey. She said she knew then that she had “that will, that will” and that she would be all right.

Given this reveal of everything Al Roker has been through since then You missed the first Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in 27 years, it’s huge that he was able to do that Return to Today so fast . The beloved emcee beamed as he met his colleagues, joking that he wanted to come back even earlier in the week (probably to get his office back from Hoda Kotb). Rocker thanked the Today crew for your support and say:

My heart is about to burst. I’m so excited to see you all, the team and everyone. Right now, I’m running on adrenaline. I’m happy to be here.

We’re thrilled to have Al Roker here as well, and we at 24 News Bulletin hope the weatherman continues his health and safe recovery after such a scary and serious few months. You can take Roker inside Today Monday through Friday at 7:00am ET on NBC and check out TV show 2023 to see what else awaits us this year.
