Death of Elizabeth II: A minute’s silence will be observed across the UK on Sunday at 8pm

On Sunday at 8:00 p.m., a minute of silence will be observed to pay tribute to Elizabeth II, who died last Thursday.

Britain will observe a minute of silence on Sunday, the prime minister’s spokeswoman Liz Truss announced on Monday, according to Reuters.

This moment of meditation will take place on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. French time), on the eve of the sovereign’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in London.

The tribute is made to “mourn and reflect on the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II,” Downing Street said, according to the BBC.

“In private, alone or with friends and neighbors”

The Prime Minister’s spokesman also clarified that this minute could be marked “in private, alone or with friends and neighbors (…) or at any locally organized community events and vigils”.

He invites “local groups, clubs and other organizations to mark this moment of reflection. And if you’re abroad, people are encouraged to mark silence in their local time,” he says.

The tribute to Queen Elizabeth II is celebrated until next Monday, the day of the state funeral. From this Wednesday, the coffin of the sovereign will rest in the Palace of Westminster where the British people can go to meditate there 23 hours a day.
