The pornographic actor Ron Jeremy, accused in California of rape and sexual assault of 21 victims, some of them minors, suffers from “severe insanity” and will be declared unfit for trial, according to the Los Angeles Times.
A judge had ordered psychiatric tests in March because the actor, who has to his credit more than 1,700 X-movie appearances since the late 1970s, had failed to recognize one of his lawyers, Stuart Goldfarb, when he had visited him in prison.
According to an email obtained by the American newspaper, doctors appointed by both the prosecution and the defense believe that he is ill and that his judgment is seriously affected.
“Given the agreement of the experts, the defendant will be declared incompetent for a trial,” explains one of the Los Angeles district attorneys, Paul Thompson, in this email. “If his condition doesn’t improve, we won’t be able to try him for his crimes.”
21 women accused of sexual violence
Ron Jeremy had long been the target of sexual abuse allegations within the profession and had been kept out of various events in recent years.
In June 2020, he was accused of raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth. His arrest and his appearance in a Los Angeles court had unleashed a new wave of complaints against the sixty-year-old, locked up ever since.
The oldest facts date from 1996 and in total, Ron Jeremy is accused of various sexual assaults on 21 women between the ages of 15 and 51, according to the Los Angeles County prosecutor. Ron Jeremy, who had pleaded completely “not guilty” on Twitter, has pleaded “not guilty” to all charges.
In June 2020, Me Goldfarb had denied the accusations against his client, assuring that he “was not a rapist”. “Ron, over the years and for what he is, he has been the partner of more than 4,000 women (…) Women are on him,” the lawyer told AFP.
