Although the funeral of the Queen of the United Kingdom has been set for Monday September 19, many ceremonies and trips are planned in the days leading up to this event.

With Elizabeth II’s death just days away, ceremonies continue this week ahead of her funeral in London on Monday.

King Charles III received condolences from the speakers of both houses of parliament on Monday morning in London, before flying to Edinburgh, Scotland. He attended a religious ceremony in the British capital given in honor of the one who was sovereign of the United Kingdom for more than 70 years.

· Monday night: meditation and wake

From this Monday at the end of the afternoon, the public will be able to pray in front of the coffin that will rest in the cathedral until Tuesday morning.

A wake is also scheduled for Monday night for the royal family.

Tuesday: the coffin on the way to London

The King and Queen consort leave Edinburgh for Belfast, again to meet politicians and receive condolences, including from the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The queen’s coffin will leave St Giles’ Cathedral for Edinburgh Airport in the late afternoon. She will then fly to London, accompanied by Princess Anne, and spend the night in the Bow Room at Buckingham Palace. Upon arrival he will be received by King Charles and members of the Royal Family.

Wednesday: procession to Buckingham

After the prayers at the Palace in the presence of the King, the Queen Consort and members of the Royal Family, a procession led by Charles III will take place in the early afternoon to transfer the Queen’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster.

The Queen and the Royal Family will join. Big Ben’s famous bell will ring, cannons will be fired from Hyde Park.

The closed coffin of the Queen will rest in Westminster Hall until the morning of the 19th, wrapped in the royal standard and placed on a catafalque covered in crimson. The public will be able to come and meet there 24 hours a day from 18:00 French time on Wednesday. Hundreds of thousands of people and miles of queue are expected, even at night.

Friday: visit to Wales

The King and Queen Consort travel to Wales, completing their four-nation tour of the United Kingdom.

monday: funeral

It’s the big day of the funeral. A state funeral is scheduled, with dignitaries from around the world expected, including US President Joe Biden. The event, filmed, is expected to be seen by millions of people around the world. A holiday has been declared for the occasion.

A procession is planned to carry the coffin to Westminster Abbey before the ceremony scheduled for 12 midnight French time.

The Queen will be buried privately in King George VI Chapel at Windsor Castle, an annex to the Main Chapel. The coffin of her husband, Prince Philip, who died last year, will be moved there to be at her side.
