Daytime television has seen several american idol the old ones enter the field with more or less success. So far, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson have earned major ratings and recognition for their stints as talk show hosts. And curiously, there may have been another Idol Dayspace veteran: OG Judge Simon Cowell. The star is a relatively interesting and fun personality, so it’s not hard to believe that he’s already been offered a hosting job. However, Cowell ended up backing out of the deal and why may surprise you.
They America has talent the judge spoke about the shocking revelation during the promotion America’s Got Talent: All-Stars (of which we know things) with ME! information. The development of the series was apparently well underway but, in an apparently unusual move, Cowell pulled the plug at the last minute. I never imagined his reasoning for doing that, that he’s not good at speaking:
It got to the point where they built up the set and I started getting anxious and then really stressed out, and I just walked out of the meeting. I just said I literally couldn’t do it. I couldn’t talk to people all day. I’m not very good at talking.
It’s surprising to hear the so-called “hard judge” say he’s not the best when talking to others. This goes to show that even the most confident person can be anxious when it comes to public speaking. A daily chat show would have been a good spot on his professional belt. He is best known for american idol and to create the X Factor Yup Have talent franchise and a series like that would have built very well on all of that. As confusing as his “not very good talker” comment might be, you have to give the man credit for knowing what his strengths and weaknesses are. Had it gone into production as planned, things could have gone wrong quickly.
I can’t help but wonder what format Simon Cowell would have taken had he continued with the talk show. The Kelly Clarkson Show it blocked the musical variety talk show’s path, and the format won multiple Daytime Emmys for the show and its host. Clarkson’s success even led her to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ old program. Weather The Jennifer Hudson Show is in its first season, the show has seamlessly blended entertainment and everyday life and garnered decent ratings and created viral moments like Hudson performing with Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph. So, would Cowell have a direct chatfest or delve into the tabloid space? Or answer some questions from the late night conversation?
We’ll probably never know, but what’s obvious is that the competition in the talk show space is already fierce and it might be best to choose to stay out of it. I’ll always be surprised why he does this, but I’m glad we can still see him on the small screen through other shows.
Along those lines, viewers get to see Simon Cowell watch every week America’s Got Talent: All-Stars every Monday on NBC at 8:00 pm EST. They can also capture The Kelly Clarkson Show Yup The Jennifer Hudson Show also in daily syndication Monday through Friday.
