Warning: Spoilers ahead of the January 9 crossover between NCIS extension, NCIS: HawaiiYup NCIS: Los Angeles.
They NCIS extension franchise has officially made history with its own first three-part crossover between the shows in progress. Three-part games have worked well for other franchises (including the FBIYup elsewhere on CBS), but it was hard to tell like three NCIS extension shows could be combined into one event. After all, each of the three series has an ensemble cast, takes place in a different location and has fundamental differences from the others down to the color of the crime scene gloves. Now that the crossing with Hawaii Yup Angels on air, there’s a big question to consider: should this happen again?
Well, I have to give credit to the folks on all three shows who made the crossover possible, because it was an ambitious effort that I’d argue worked out quite well. Some of the cast members crossed over to the other series, and while the others were mostly featured in their own episodes, which was particularly notable in the case of THEonly with Sat Yup Be quiet appears in the other two. Because THE not part of either of the other two recent crossovers, this event marked the first time some of California’s characters crossed paths with the Aloha State Agents.
The case was complicated, of course, by a professor’s suicide that brought all three teams together, then escalated to involve the CIA, an assassination program, a huge explosion, and even a lengthy torture session. The end result was an event that was more cinematic than what we usually see on the small screen, and more interesting to me than either. NCIS extension/Hawaii two parts so far. I’d love to see another three-part crossover…sometimes. Not sure CBS has to do it again any time soon.
The franchise had to up the ante to find a way to justify a case involving teams from Washington DC, Hawaii and Los Angeles working together, and there were plenty of time jumps to travel across the country and/or ocean . . If cases occur regularly on such a scale, it could start to feel contrived, or at least a lot less special, and potentially even make the regular episodes less interesting.
The shows are too far apart for it to make sense for them to happen too often, and although the the actors had a lot to say about the experience , even the characters rejected the idea of starting over. This doesn’t mean that something is missing. NCIS extension frankly that the idea of frequent threesomes seems difficult; the situation is the same for the FBISt.

Only one of the three parts has happened so far, and that was the launch International as a freshman series in 2021. Also, although The CW’s back arrow never reached the heights of a NCIS extension even at its six-show peak, it also had to struggle to find an excuse for its very different shows set in very different locations to combine them into multiple parts, some of which were more successful than others.
cross for the three a Chicago Shows on NBC were an annual occurrence before the manufacturing complications of COVID, and they still often share characters, which makes sense since they’re all set in one city. The same goes for ABC. Grey’s Anatomy Yup station 19, both set in Seattle. That kind of convenience in the universe just doesn’t exist for NCIS extension. Furthermore, the three programs are generally not all broadcast on the same night; January 9 was a special case with THE broadcast on Monday.
That said, I’d argue that this tricky three-part game may have set the stage for easier and possibly more frequent two-part games. NCIS extension Yup Hawaii I have already removed it several times and THE technically crossed with a show set in Hawaii that day Kensi trip to Hawaii five to zero , so one could say that there is a precedent. I’m all for the occasional big event in the trio of the show, but three-parters on the scale of this should be pretty rare. What THEthis is LL bello J Said this it seemed like a wonderful event !
Plus, each of the three has plenty to do without the cases that regularly force them to be mixed in with the others.
