Star wedding is such a thing that even movies have been made about the idea. A wedding is usually a really good party, usually with free food and often free drinks, so you can guess why showing up to casual weddings might be something people do. Most of the time, if you do and they catch you, they politely ask you to leave, but when Brad Pitt does, they ask him to stay.
While most of us would be in awe of trying to plan a wedding event, most of us would probably love to have a famous celebrity show up to our own wedding. That was apparently the case when Brad Pitt was filming Mr and Mrs Smith as the actor says W magazine that one of the buildings used for filming was also hosting a wedding party, so he stopped. Pitt explained…
I missed a wedding party. He was on the set of Mr & Mrs. [Smith]. We were shooting in this Deco building downtown, and in the penthouse above, we kept seeing people pacing. It was a wedding party, so I snuck out. And they were fine with it. [Laughs]
To be fair, if Brad Pitt came to my wedding party, he would be more than welcome. Unsurprisingly, people have been very accommodating in this case. Pitt doesn’t mention whether his co-star in Mr and Mrs Smith, and his future wife, Angelina Jolie, also performed at the event. Although, since they’ve been through a bitter, years-long divorce, he probably doesn’t talk much about her.
The building in question is likely the one found at the beginning of the film when Brad Pitt’s character makes his way to his spy wife’s office after the two begin trying to kill each other. The building in the film is under construction and serves as a front for Jolie’s spy team, who try to keep Pitt from going up by pulling various traps, such as blowing up elevators.
Pitt is far from the only “celebrity marriage accident” out there. Last summer we learned that in the UK a new boyfriend met Keanu Reeves in a hotel bar, and he invited the john wick star upon receipt. Though the newlywed probably thought the star wasn’t actually going to show up, he absolutely did. Because of course it was. It’s the polite thing to do.
Maybe it’s not technically a wedding fight since Keanu was technically invited, but let’s not keep count. I’m sure Brad Pitt was also technically invited as soon as he showed up.
