Angela Bassett just made Marvel Cinematic Universe history at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. Angela Bassett scrambled to regain her composure as she took to the stage at the Golden Globes to collect her Best Supporting Actress award for playing Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, perhaps because it was an honor he hadn’t expected. Bassett is making history as the first Marvel actor to win a major acting award for a role in a Marvel film.
Once the actress had a moment to collect her thoughts, she thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for her second Golden Globe win of her career, as well as her professional team for helping her. She has also shown love to her husband, Courtney B. Vance, and the rest of her family. Bassett then moved on to a special message for the Marvel team and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever crew:
To my Marvel Disney family, Ryan Coogler, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Nate Moore. For the cast and crew, tears may come at night, but joy comes in the morning. We have embarked on this journey with love, we have cried, we have loved, we have healed, and we have been surrounded by the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman every day. And we’re glad to know that with this historic Black Panther series, it’s part of his legacy that he’s helped bring us to. Let’s show the world what Black unity, leadership and love looks like beyond, behind and in front of the camera.
Angela Bassett called the win a nod to Chadwick Boseman’s legacy. it is a legacy that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also honored by the death of T’Challa’s character. Boseman died in 2020 at the age of 43 from colon cancer after battling the disease privately since 2016.
The award was a win for Angela Bassett and the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever team, but the actress made sure fans knew they were appreciated, too. In the final part of her speech, she shared her thanks to fans of the MCU and all they’ve done to make Marvel movies a success:

Angela Bassett’s win is great news for Marvel as a whole, but she could be making even more headlines for the studio in 2023. Angela Bassett absolutely crushed it Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, so it’s pretty amazing to see her properly compensated for that. Hopefully, the wins for Marvel film will continue, and this sets the stage for future Marvel films to win awards as well.
