Angela Bassett pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman as she makes Marvel history at the Golden Globes

Angela Bassett just made Marvel Cinematic Universe history at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever The actress scored a huge win at the comeback awards show, and among many others, she had to pay tribute to her late co-star from the get-go. black Panther movie, Chadwick Boseman.

Angela Bassett scrambled to regain her composure as she took to the stage at the Golden Globes to collect her Best Supporting Actress award for playing Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, perhaps because it was an honor he hadn’t expected. We have embarked on this journey with love, we have cried, we have loved, we have healed, and we have been surrounded by the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman every day. And we’re glad to know that with this historic Black Panther series, it’s part of his legacy that he’s helped bring us to. Let’s show the world what Black unity, leadership and love looks like beyond, behind and in front of the camera.

Angela Bassett called the win a nod to Chadwick Boseman’s legacy. it is a legacy that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also honored by the death of T’Challa’s character. Boseman died in 2020 at the age of 43 from colon cancer after battling the disease privately since 2016.

The award was a win for Angela Bassett and the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever team, but the actress made sure fans knew they were appreciated, too. In the final part of her speech, she shared her thanks to fans of the MCU and all they’ve done to make Marvel movies a success:

And to Marvel fans, thank you for embracing these characters and showing us so much love. We have just made history with this nomination and with this award. It belongs to all of you. All of us. Thank you.

Angela Bassett’s win is great news for Marvel as a whole, but she could be making even more headlines for the studio in 2023. While Golden Globe wins aren’t always indicative of what the Oscars will be like, Bassett could be on stage one. . more time later. this year for the Oscars.
