Scotland, Northern Ireland, London… 6 days before the funeral of Elizabeth II, this Tuesday’s program

The day will be marked by important appointments, including the return of the sovereign’s remains to London.

Another day of tributes for the late sovereign. This Wednesday, while Britons sometimes wait several hours to pay their last respects to Elizabeth II at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, the new King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will fly to Belfast, Northern Ireland.

There the monarch will meet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland as well as several local party leaders after visiting Hillsborough Castle and taking part in an exhibition on the queen’s relationship with the country. At the end of this visit, Carlos III will receive a message of condolences from the president of the Northern Ireland Assembly, says CNN.

This visit is highly symbolic since, given the desire for independence in certain regions, the new king will have the task of showing the unity of the kingdom.

At the end of the day, at 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. French time), the Queen’s coffin will travel the 13.2 kilometers that separate the Saint-Gilles cathedral from the Scottish capital’s airport. A specially chartered plane, in which Princess Anne will be seated, will then fly to RAF Northolt station.

There, a hearse will be responsible for transporting the royal coffin to Buckingham Palace, where it will be received at 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. French time) by the king, the queen consort, as well as other members of the Windsor clan.

The Dean of the Royal Chapels will lead a prayer session while a group of pallbearers, the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, will be tasked with placing the coffin on trestles in the center of the Bow Room for passing the night.
