At the beginning of the episode, her cousin visited Firehouse 51 to ask Violet if she would like to come to her apartment and pick out some memories to keep before the family cleans everything up.
While Violet initially seemed to just want to snap a few pictures and other memorabilia as she walked past the apartment, her eyes lit up when she saw Hawkins’ laptop. Her cousin gave her the green light to take him, and she found what she was looking for: a voice note Hawkins had reported before her death about Emma’s attempt to blackmail him. In the recording she said:
I’m recording this after meeting Emma Jacobs outside the CFD offices. She was waiting for me. Threatened to expose my relationship with Violet, I said I had two choices: I could move Violet to another house and give her the place at age 51, or I would file false complaints saying Violet’s negligence nearly killed someone .
Hawkins’ voice confirming what Violet had reported was exactly what she needed to prove that Emma didn’t belong in the AI anywhere. In fact, the recording of her voice was about as incontrovertible as she Violet could have hoped for, compared to the text messages or emails she could have retrieved from the laptop. Hawkins passed away months ago, but he just saved Violet and Firehouse 51 a lot of trouble thanks to his note-taking habit.
Violet was able to triumphantly tell Emma that she’ll never forget Hawkins now, because “he’s the man who just ended your career.” This certainly seems to be the end of the story about Emma posing a threat to 51 from within the CFD, and perhaps the end of the story unless she decides to seek revenge in a civilized way.
