In the age of reboots, revivals, sequels, and spinoffs, it’s always one question: “What happens next?” And the last one has been revealed, although not everyone can be happy, because it is Zoë 101. The once beloved series followed Jamie Lynn Spears’ Zoey Brooks going to boarding school in Southern California and everything that went with it. After some news about the continuation of the series, fans have a lot to say about it.
Yes, fans of Nickelodeon’s hit show. Zoë 101 have mixed feelings right now after it was announced that there will be a sequel starring Jamie Lynn Spears and other original cast members. Spears has been in the spotlight a bit lately with her public feud with her sister Britney, and she could be seen on Fox Special forces: the toughest test in the world, driving her and other celebrities to breaking point, emotionally and physically. But with the renewal on the way, what does that mean?
How Paramount+ is bringing back Zoey 101
Nickelodeon has announced that production has begun Zoë 102an original feature film based on the characters of Zoë 101. The film, which will see the return of Jamie Lynn Spears as Zoey Brooks, Erin Sanders as Quinn Pensky, Sean Flynn as Chase Matthews, Matthew Underwood as Logan Reese, Christopher Massey as Michael Barrett, Abby Wild as Stacey Dillsen and Jack Salvatore as Mark Del Figgalo follows Pacific Coast Academy alumni who reunite for a wedding.
Zoë 102 is currently the working title of the sequel, directed by Nancy Hower, from a screenplay by Monica Sherer and Madeline Whitby. Spears, Hower, Sherer & Whitby and Alexis Fisher are executive producers. The film is expected to be released on Paramount+ (opens in a new tab) end 2023.
Since filming is taking place in North Carolina and the gang is obviously not in high school anymore, fans may not see PCA in the movie. The original series was filmed at Pepperdine University in California, but fans will have to wait for the sequel to find out where the latest adventure takes place.
What the fans think
As for the reactions of the fans, they are not entirely encouraging. Due to Jamie Lynn Spears’ feud with Britney Spears, fans have some thoughts on the news. Not everyone will be returning for the film, including Victoria Justice, who has played Lola Martinez since season 2. One fan let the world know that Justice won’t be the only one not returning/connecting @fleurdelys destination:
I don’t think we’ll all be back for the “Zoey 101” sequel.
Another fan can’t get past the title. It should be noted that this is only a “working title” for now, but it’s possible it will remain so Zoë 102. This person has a strong opinion:

Meanwhile, there are still people who wouldn’t give a Zoë 101 sequel, but not focused on Zoey. One fan thinks the honor should go to another character/star: Alexa Nikolas, who played Nicole for the first two seasons and has since spoken out about the bullying she experienced on the set of the Nickelodeon series. @SimonIsHott he wrote:
We don’t want a ‘Zoey 101’ movie… we just want ‘Nicole 101/ with Alexa Nikolas’
Victoria Justice isn’t the only one who’s already been told she won’t be returning for the film. Before going all out to become Elvis, Austin Butler starred as PCA rookie and Zoey’s boyfriend James Garrett in the show’s final season. While it’s no surprise that she doesn’t return to her Nickelodeon roots, one fan couldn’t help but hilariously imagine how this chain of events could have happened:

Contrary to surprisingly revival, which has been renewed for a third season, it’s clear not all fans are happy with the news of the reboot, and as a fan of the original series, I can’t say I blame them. There are some on social media with more excited reactions, including one saying “yeah heck” to more Zoe:

Whether you are thrilled or disappointed Zoë 101 returns with a sequel film, I’d say it will be interesting to see what some of PCA’s brightest have been up to since the series ended in 2008, and who knows? Maybe this could be just the push we need for another series/movie revolving around someone else.
