Tom Hanks chooses two of his films that he wants to be a part of his legacy after he leaves

No one reading this story wants Tom Hanks going anywhere anytime soon. The man is a national treasure. He has entertained us for decades in some of the best movies ever made and hopefully will continue to entertain us for decades to come. But it is clear that her latest films, Bullfinch a Elviscame close to the grim reality of death, and that vein continues in his latest film, A man named Otto. as you saw in the movie trailer , Otto (Hanks) is a curmudgeon who also takes care of his neighbors’ business. But as you’ll learn, there’s a sadness about Otto that moves the film forward in unexpected ways.

Tom Hanks is back to ReelBlend , the official Gossipify movie podcast, this week and talked a lot about legacy. Now, if you know Hanks (and we’ve had the chance to dive into his filmography in the past), you don’t want to waste time ruminating on the past. But he likes to talk about craftsmanship. The man has been making movies for most of his life and has worked with all the greats.

but speaking of A man named Ottoone of many upcoming book-film adaptations put him in a reflective state of mind, and we went down the rabbit hole talking about one of his favorite movies that he feels is being overlooked: Sam Mendes the road to perdition. And in that conversation, Hanks revealed the two titles in his career that he hopes will be remembered as the industry celebrates his incredible legacy. As he told the ReelBlend hosts:

In the legacy area, you know, if someone said to me, “Hey Tom, right after you died for real…” Which isn’t going to last for a while, isn’t that personal? It won’t be for a while. ‘Do you want to organize a film festival of your thing?’ What if someone else picked the movies? These would just be hits. You know, the ones that play every Christmas. But really, I would say there are a number of things I would say I need to go back and dig deeper into the realm of what I thought was presence and authenticity. It was very, very, very particular to these specific characters, in these specific movies. If you were to ask me five movies, honestly one would be That Thing You Do, because it’s so full of joy, as far as I’m concerned. And I hope I have a bunch of other movies that I can still do that may or may not be there. But I’d say Road to Perdition would be one where I’d have to say, “Please mind the silence here.” You know? “Please watch the silence.”

It’s a shame that, in the grand scheme of Tom Hanks’ incredible work, that the road to perdition it’s overlooked, as it does a tremendous job in the story of a mobster trying to keep his young son out of his father’s job. In addition to the presence of Hanks, the cast of the film includes a very young and emerging Daniel Craig, Jude Law and the iconic Paul Newman in one of his last film roles. It was directed by Sam Mendes (fallen from the sky, 1917), and shot by legendary cinematographer Conrad Hall. So yeah, it’s a stone cold classic and more people need to see it. I’ve just checked. East streaming on netflix . Go find it.

And naturally, What are you doing would be another choice of Tom Hanks, both because it’s a wonderful movie but also because it marked his directorial debut, so he will always remain a special place in your heart . But Tom Hanks isn’t ready to talk about legacy. Not completely. He has a new movie in theaters right now. A man named Otto remakes a Swedish film and adapts it for American audiences, but gives Hanks a meaty role that completely elevates him. You can listen to our full interview with Tom Hanks below:

We’ve been talking about it for a while eight bring Hanks into the crowded Best Actor conversation, but he seems to be blocked by its Elvis co-star Austin Butler by Brendan Fraser The whaleand Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin. Yet, A man named Otto it is very worth your time, so go to the theater and watch it.
