Hallmark’s Nikki DeLoach explains how ‘new hallmark’ is very different from what she experienced under the ‘old’ regime

Hallmark has been in the midst of a lot of changes lately and viewers are anticipating it upcoming blockbusters know that many of these changes are starting to be reflected in the “cheesy” romantic films that the network is known for. Not only are we seeing more movies that focus on things like strong female friendships (like with incredibly good stuff and he always growth the bridal veil franchise but we’re also getting more inclusive films with hints of color and stories that include LGBTQ+ characters. distinctive star Nikki DeLoach has now opened up about her work with the “new Hallmark” and how things have changed.

What did Nikki DeLoach say about partnering with Hallmark now?

previous one Strange. star starred in films for the focused on the happy ending chain from the Christmas offer 2015, native landand spoke late last year about working on the network first faith-based Christmas movie, the gift of peace . People who haven’t checked out the channel’s offerings for a few years may not know that the films now have a wider reach than Bill Abbott (who departed for GAF after being embroiled in a controversy over an advertisement with a same-sex kiss ) is no longer in charge.

While speaking in Vulnerable (opens in a new tab) Podcast host/actress Christy Carlson Romano discussed her experiences with the old Hallmark regime and how things have changed now, with DeLoach saying:

True, we are now telling bigger, deeper, richer stories. inclusive, dynamic [stories]. The prevailing mentality in our network is that our audience is actually very diverse. Some of the same people who watch Hallmark have also watched Game of Thrones or Succession. And, yes, there is a large section [of the audience] who watch Fox News and then watch Hallmark, but it’s different. So the way they see it now is we want everyone to see themselves in a handful of movies. Is fantastic! Let’s make sure everything and everyone is represented here and create that space. I’m very proud of how far we’ve come in our storytelling. I was like, guys, our audience can’t handle this, they want it. They are hungry for it.

After Carlson Romano pointed out that he once met with Abbott about the possibility of working on a film for the network and saw, at the time, how many rules there were about what you could and couldn’t do, DeLoach added that once who was shooting a drama for them, started crying during a difficult scene for her character, and then they told her they didn’t want so many negative emotions on camera. She also noted that it was about six years ago when she launched a film with a divorced couple at its core, even though she was given permission to produce the film.

Though the channel is known for a number of enriching novels they were also very easy to make fun of, especially in the past, because the films followed a very clear formula and, as the two actresses said, they didn’t delve too much into serious subjects and showed nothing but a very narrow view of society in its together. It is only in 2020 that home, Christmas showed an openly gay couple for the first time, with the protagonist of this film, bad Girls problem member Jonathan Bennett, who eventually starred in The first Hallmark film to center around a gay couple in 2022 with the babysitter on vacation .

It’s clear that Hallmark is taking a lot of steps in the right direction when it comes to showcasing more realistic love stories featuring different types of people, and we can’t wait to see more!
