Michael Bay is known as the director of some of the best action movies into existence. This kind of title isn’t easy, and it’s true that there is a lot of danger on the set of similar films transformers franchise or even Bay’s Netflix action comedy with Ryan Reynolds, 6 underground. In the case of the latter film, the director was accused of the death of a pigeon, allegedly during the film’s shooting in Italy.
The allegations stem from a 2018 incident that, as reported the casing saw Bay’s production accidentally kill a pigeon in the middle of a take. As the birds are a protected species in Italy, this death is considered a crime. In response to these claims, Michael Bay released the following statement:
I am a known animal lover and a prominent animal activist. No animals involved in the production were harmed or injured. Or any other production you’ve worked on in the last 30 years. We have clear video evidence, a multitude of witnesses and security officials exempting us from these charges. And he refutes his only paparazzi photo, which gives a false story. There is a court case pending so I cannot go into details but I am confident we will prevail when I have my day in court. The Italian authorities offered me the possibility to settle this case by paying a small fine, but I refused as I would not plead guilty to harming an animal.
Of course, Bay has denied these allegations of wrongdoing, to the point of turning down offers from the Italian government to pay a fine to settle the legal issues. No information is currently available other than the fact that the crime was reported anonymously to the authorities by an alleged witness.
While no specific sequence is mentioned in the 6 underground accusations, there are excerpts from the Netflix original which suggest where and when this alleged death occurred. Again, when a film claims to contain maximum bayhem you need to consider whether or not criminal charges are involved.
What often drowns out these thoughts is Bay’s methodical execution larger than life stunts that always find their way safely past the camera. also last year Ambulance seen sharing michael bay a particularly dangerous car stunt on social media and the whole process showed a controlled environment that played to the director’s strengths, but still felt quite safe.
Whatever the arguments for or against the hypothetical methods of this alleged misconduct, the legendary action director is ready to make his case. It is currently unknown when this will happen and what the results will be. For now, the world will have to wait and see where this story pans out in the days to come. Those curious to see the film for themselves can grab 6 underground through access to a Netflix subscription.
