Teenager dies after shooting at movie theater in Pennsylvania

A teenager is killed after a shooting at a movie theater over the weekend. Police are still searching for the accused shooter and are asking anyone with information to call the Pennsylvania State Police.

The incident occurred at a movie theater in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on Saturday night. Luis Manuel Luna, 19, of Hazelton, Pa., who was later identified by police, was reportedly inside the playground at the Regal Cinema in Hazle Township when gunfire erupted. Police and paramedics were called to the cartel and transported Luna to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazelton. Sadly, he died of his injuries on Sunday.

Although the shooting occurred inside a movie theater, which is a very public place, authorities very quickly released a statement saying residents considered the shooting an “isolated incident”. Presumably, the victim was directly assaulted by the shooter, although the precise reason is unclear and/or has not been made public. The shooter reportedly fled the area and has not yet been found.

Pennsylvania State Police made a rather lengthy statement about what happened You can read about it below…

At approximately 8:15 pm on Saturday, January 14, PSP Hazelton officers were dispatched to the Regal Cinema, 400 Laurel Mall Drive, Hazle Township, Luzerne County, with a report of “shots fired”. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 19-year-old man had been shot in the atrium of the playground/cinema. The shooter then fled the theater and the surrounding area. The victim, a 19-year-old male, was flown to Lehigh Valley Hazleton for treatment of his injuries. While this shooting occurred in a public place, where people were in direct danger, this shooting was an isolated incident where the victim was specifically targeted. If anyone has information related to the investigation, he is encouraged to contact PSP Hazleton at 507-459-3890. This investigation remains active by the N Troop Core Cases Team. Updated information will be posted as soon as it becomes available so as not to compromise the integrity of the investigation. Any information obtained from outside sources that has not been released by the Pennsylvania State Police should be considered “unofficial.”

Unfortunately, the above statement was made before Luna passed away on Sunday morning. Authorities have since officially turned the case into a homicide investigation and are pursuing all leads. If you have information about the case, please call 507-459-3890 to speak with those involved in the case.
