Bagpipe songs and a solemn moment. The remains of Queen Elizabeth II left Edinburgh on Tuesday afternoon. In a final procession before joining London’s Westminster Abbey, eight men carry the coffin crowned with the royal standard, and a piper parades in the forecourt.
The public, who came in large numbers to attend these few minutes of procession, fell silent as a sign of homage. Since yesterday, the Scots were able to meditate in front of the remains of the queen in the Saint-Gilles cathedral.
Princess Anne accompanies the remains
The four children of the monarch: Andrés, Eduardo, Ana and King Carlos yesterday paid their respects to their mother at the wake in front of the coffin in an emotional moment.
Departing from the royal residence at Balmoral on Sunday, the body is due to make its last trip to London by plane on Tuesday night. The sovereign’s daughter, Princess Anne, who has accompanied the coffin since Sunday, will also follow him on her flight to the British capital.
From Wednesday, the British will be able to go to greet the remains of the queen in Westminster Abbey until Monday morning, the day of the official funeral.
