Brendan Fraser is the toast of Hollywood right now. Among his critically acclaimed roles in The whale, and the way the actor has endeared himself to fans as part of the ongoing “Brenaissance,” it seems like no one is as beloved as Fraser. However, the Fraser actor has apparently looked up to Leonardo DiCaprio for many years.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM Fraser talked about his next film, moonflower killers, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring DiCaprio. The actor then shared how he met a very young Leonardo DiCaprio shortly after the two had traveled to Hollywood. Fraser says he was fascinated by the teenage DiCaprio, and the young actor appreciated how Fraser treated him as an equal. He explained…
My God. When I got to town, I saw it in Gilbert Grape and she was 15, 16. I was 20 and it was like that, it was very beautiful. What he did was right, and what did I know about it, but it was a screening on a Paramount lot and you know, years later, he said, you know, I liked it. He told me I was like the first person not to treat him like a child because when I met him I didn’t see a child. I saw a really great actor who was certainly a young man, but a force to be reckoned with. And man, was I lucky enough to take this short trip with them to work with Scorsese.
What does Gilbert Grape eat would give young Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar nomination in only his second major film role, DiCaprio would take a few tries to earn. He played the disabled younger brother of the main character played by Johnny Depp. Being nominated at such a young age certainly indicated that, as Fraser says here, DiCaprio was a “force to be reckoned with,” and the actor’s career since has proven that to be true.
While Brendan Fraser’s career in Hollywood would lead him down the road to more popular movies and make him an action hero in those early years, his professional resurgence has put him in the awards conversation this year. . A Best Actor Oscar nomination seems all but assured at this point. whatever happens with The whale At the Oscars, Fraser’s return to the spotlight will not end there. It’s part of the incredible moonflower killers cast, and feels very lucky to be included in it, saying…
It’s an Apple project in the works. I was lucky to have worked with John Lithgow and Robert De Niro and Leo, Leonardo DiCaprio.
Although Fraser calls his time in the film a “fast trip,” indicating his role may not be that big, for the new legions of fans Fraser has amassed in recent years, chances are you can continue on your way to success.
