The music of Billie Eilish and BTS among the most listened to to fall asleep, according to a study

Danish researchers have analyzed more than 225,000 tracks on Spotify to determine which songs listeners use the most to help them fall asleep.

Unknowingly, Billie Eilish, BTS, and Khalid are among the artists who help many people fall asleep every night. In a study published in the journal plus oneResearchers at Aarhus University in Denmark have tried to compile a list of the most used songs for sleeping.

To do this, they analyzed more than 225,000 songs, drawn from 985 sleep-related playlists on Spotify, to better understand the characteristics of the most listened to songs and find commonalities between them.

Although they found that music used for sleep is obviously characterized primarily by a calm tempo and instrumental and acoustic melodies, these researchers were surprised to find pop and rap among the most listened to.

The preferred BTS to sleep

The study specifies, for example, that of all the data analyzed, the song that returns the most to Spotify’s dream playlists is Dynamite by the South Korean K-pop group BTS, who appears 245 times, despite his characteristics far removed from relaxation songs.

Other popular titles like jealous of Labrinth, or charming by Billie Eilish and Khalid have also returned numerous times to Spotify’s bedtime playlists.

According to Kira Vibe Jespersen, associate professor at Aarhus University who participated in the study, interviewed by Euronews, people who listen to this type of music “seek to regulate their emotions before falling asleep, distract themselves or mask the sounds of the outside environment, such as noise from traffic, from a neighbor or the like”.

“The study clearly shows that there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to sleep music, and underscores the importance of considering individual preferences when choosing sleep music.” On twitter.
