Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t seen HBO’s second episode yet. The Last of Usso be careful!
one more week to HBO extension The Last of Us and another great video game death. I mean, it’s only episode 2, but I can’t imagine many fans would have complained if co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann had thrown an entire episode in between. Sarah’s tragic murder and the next outing for a big horror drama character. Unfortunately, Anna Torv’s stubborn survivor Tess bit the fat one, or did she bite the fat one? – for which different from the narrative of the game slightly with gruesome and sadly fatal results.
The Last of Us Star Anna Torv spoke to Gossipify ahead of the adaptation’s premiere on HBO and shared her thoughts on her character’s demise and gameplay details that necessarily remained the same.
tear
As featured in the award-winning source material, The Last of UsThe second episode brought out their instantly memorable Clickers during the group’s walk through the history museum, and it was great to feel the same kind of tension watching them take on the bizarre monsters in live action. Less grandiose were the revelations that the fireflies our potential customers had planned to encounter had been killed and that Tess had been bitten during the brawl at the museum. Rather than leave to live out her last days/hours exhausted with Joel and Ellie, Tess sacrificed herself as bait for a horde of infected attracted to the cordyceps spores, as opposed to the arriving uninfected soldiers, as happened in the video game . .
This exchange of details led to a gag-worthy moment in the TV series, with one of the infected villains reaching over and sliding his shitty WTF Roots stuff into Tess’s mouth just before the explosion goes off. . When I asked star Anna Torv to crown her The Last of Us trip with that bit of rudeness, here’s how he said it:
Yes, that was pretty rude. But luckily he all came in the mail, so it wasn’t so disgusting that day. [Laughs.] Which was a relief. But yeah, I really didn’t know what it was supposed to be. When I read it, or when they described it, I thought it was going to be a little more lyrical or something, I wasn’t really sure. And then I’m like, ‘Oh no, that’s disgusting.’ And that’s it, like mwah.
To the actress’s credit, many other shows and movies would likely have added a more lyrical edge to a sequence like this, but such beauty isn’t always available in the movie business. The Last of Us. Enhancing things with a blasting soundtrack and the like might have taken away the dark and grim reality of Tess’ sacrifice. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to erase that disgusting near-kiss from my memory.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Rub, scrub, scrub!
The detail of Tess that had to stay true to the video game
During our interview, Anna Torv talked about bringing a digital character to life, instead of playing someone in a comedy that has been performed many times in the past. (In addition to her fan favorite work on Bandaged, spirit hunter and other TV shows, Torv is also a scene veteran). News reader The Vet commented that TV is a rarer home for remakes like this, and shared an important detail the co-creators wanted to keep hidden in the game.
It’s like the fun part of movies and TV. You don’t get remakes that often, you know. so you don’t see someone else playing a game that you made. But it was surprising that the story was just the story. And so where Tess fit in and how she played with others was written. The only thing they were specific about was where her bite was and showing her bite. So I remember seeing him say, “Oh, we have to stick to this part.” There are some very specific things that she says that make you go, “Oh, we need her to stay.” It’s a moment fans would love.
While he didn’t explain exactly why the bite location went from medium to medium, it’s safe to assume they meant him to produce the same kind of puff of air. voice of Tess Annie Wersching. If she had been bitten in the ankle or one of her buttocks, it probably wouldn’t have been as dramatic a revelation as showing her hideous shoulder and neck. She probably would have even sparked some curiosity among viewers, not to mention Joel and Ellie, about how she would be bitten in those areas. Anyway, RIP Tess by Anna Torv. We barely knew you.
