The animal rights association Peta has denounced the use of fake life-size animal heads in the dresses of the Schiaparelli house, which opened the haute couture week in Paris on Monday.
Models Naomi Campbell, with a wolf’s head on her shoulder integrated into her coat, or Irina Shayk, with a lion’s head hiding her upper body, walked down the Petit Palais catwalk, while the American reality TV star Kylie Jenner, in the front row. of her, also adorned with a lion’s head, drew the crackling of the sparkles above her.
A “glorification of trophy hunting”
“Schiaparelli’s claim that ‘no animals were harmed in the making of this collection is factually false,’ Peta said in a statement.
Peta criticized that these dresses “glorify trophy hunting” and also denounced the use of silk and wool, materials for which “silkworms were scalded alive and sheep exploited for their fleece.”
Daniel Roseberry, the American artistic director of the house of surrealist aesthetics, explained in the show notes that these faux taxidermy creations of resin and other man-made materials embodied Dante’s “circles of hell”: “The leopard, the lion and the wolf represent lust, pride and greed respectively,” he said.
