The Razzie Awards, which award trophies each year to the worst Hollywood has produced, announced the 2023 nominees on Monday. If Blonde, Andrew Dominik’s film loosely inspired by the life of Marilyn Monroe, wins as a favorite with eight nominations, Tom Hanks has the misfortune to appear in no less than three categories.
The actor was shortlisted by the organizers of these satirical trophies in the categories Worst Actor (for his role as Gepetto in Disney’s remake of Pinocchio), Worst Supporting Actor (for his role as Elvis Presley’s manager in the biopic Elvis), and worst screen couple (duo with “his face loaded with latex and his ridiculous accent”), always for Elvis.
“Most Ridiculed Performance of the Year”
According to a statement from the organizers of the Razzies, in the film Elvis, Tom Hanks reportedly delivered the “most ridiculed performance of 2022.” TimeElvis and actor Austin Butler have been widely acclaimed (the latter recently won the Best Actor Golden Globe for this role), Tom Hanks has drawn critical ire.
pinocchio Disney’s is also among the five films vying for the “worst picture” Razzie alongside “Blonde.”
The “Golden Raspberry Awards,” the official name for the Razzies, were invented in a Los Angeles theater in 1981 by former film students and Hollywood professionals.
The Razzies are usually announced the day before the Academy Awards. Lucky winners receive a trophy depicting a golf ball-sized raspberry placed on a reel of Super 8 film.
