Spoilers ahead for the winter premiere of the good doctor Season 6, entitled “Quiet and Loud”.
the good doctor is finally returning to ABC with its winter premiere, weeks after many of television’s biggest shows already debuted in 2023. Whether it was worth the wait will no doubt be debated early in the second half of season 6, like the fall finale. December ended with a series of suspenseful unanswered questions, including a life-or-death cliffhanger. “Quiet and Loud” answered those questions and quickly settled the suspense, but now that it’s over, I find myself thinking that the show has missed an incredible opportunity to a major coup: forward in time. .
The fall finale concluded with the reveal of to avoid that Grass she was pregnant despite having recently learned that conception could be fatal to both her and the baby, as well as lime receiving a proposition on her way to surgery to regain the ability to walk. Last but not least, it was Jordan find it out perez had overdosed on drugs when she was supposed to be cooking for her very first date, and if it weren’t for the news that actor Brandon Larracuente He was promoted to series regular there would have been a real reason to worry about the character’s death.
All in all, it was a great finale with a few twists to keep fans hooked for the new year’s winter finale. For the resolution, I expected something like this the good doctor Was of channeling emergencies in the season five finale goes business suit Grey’s Anatomy in the season 6 premiere with the latter picking up right after the former to show the full aftermath of what happened before the cliffhanger.
I didn’t think the repercussions would be as severe as those that followed the season 5 premiere, but I expected at least a few cliffhangers in one or two storylines, especially Perez. Also, after all drama after Lim’s post-stabbing operation with Shaun, it would have been nice to have a scene between them before so much time was up.
The story time jump lasted for months before the end of the fall finale left me to fend for myself during the first commercial break to make sure I didn’t miss the REAL winter premiere, because “Quiet and Loud” felt more like a second episode than a big comeback from a hiatus.
Of course, the stakes were high when Lea’s first surgery apparently caused complications severe enough that she not only lost her pregnancy, but Lim had to have an emergency hysterectomy. There was also a heartwarming scene of all the doctors who weren’t in the OR joining Shaun outside the OR to wait for a word with him. Fortunately, it turned out that Lea’s emergency was not due to a surgical complication and she and her baby survived.
And that sequence worked for me, because I was really wondering if Lea should have an emergency hysterectomy, so kudos to the show for building that suspense. I only wish the winter premiere hadn’t wasted all the tension and suspense of the fall finale and seized the opportunity to deliver on the terrifying promise of the end of 2022.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad Perez is OK and back to work, and it’s great to see Lim on the mend and moving forward in their relationship, not to mention Lea on the mend. It would have been nice if it was shown instead of just telling what happened that seemed so interesting during those unseen three months.
Naturally, the winter premiere set the stage for what followed. Lea is long past her first trimester, and I wouldn’t be surprised if another time jump awaits her to give birth just in time for the final spring season. Also backdoor pilot for a potential legal drama spin-off will air in March, with Felicity Huffmann characterized in her first television role since college admissions scandal . Besides, Morgan is actively working to get pregnant so there could be two characters with baked buns before the end of season six.
Now that the medical drama is back in 2023 TV premiere schedule keep tuning in to ABC Mondays at 10 p.m. ET for new episodes of the good doctor . You can also stream previous episodes of the series with a Hulu subscription
