Spoilers ahead for episode 8 of the Winchesters Season 1, entitled “Hang on to Your Life” and the complete series of Supernatural.
The world of Supernatural returns to the small screen in 2022 with new content for the first time since the original series ended in 2020, featuring the winchesters telling the story of Sam and Dean’s parents meeting in the 1970s. With John and Mary still far from marriage and having children, it seemed unlikely that Sam or Dean would show up anytime soon, even with Jensen Ackles as narrator. . Viewers then got a surprise scene from Dean in the pilot and another glimpse of him in the winter premiere soon after. Ackles celebrated Dean’s birthday . Now I wonder if Supernatural fans who were on the fence about the spinoff should officially take the plunge.
Dean, of course, was the first Winchester brother to die in the series finale Supernatural, as he was ultimately killed for good on a hunt in the present, while Sam went on to live a life long enough to require a flash-forward (complete with a dodgy wig). Even with time travel leading the brothers to younger versions of their parents over the course of the series, and even with Jensen Ackles aboard the spinoff as executive producer and narrator, it just didn’t seem possible. Dean shows up. . .until the end of the pilot the winchesterswhich revealed that Dean wrote in a diary before leaving the Impala.
There were no details as to why he was writing, and the narrative even promised there would be some surprises, but Dean was back and it didn’t feel like a flashback. So inside the winchesters‘I’m back in the 2023 TV premiere schedule , Jensen Ackles appeared once again. This time, Dean appeared in a photo taken in the 1970s, which John and Mary saw but had no idea they were looking at the adult version of their unborn child. There was no explanation of how or why Dean could somehow be back, but he was a pretty solid hook for everything. Supernatural fans to start connecting.
Especially if those Supernatural fans are like me and haven’t really started watching the Winchesters when it debuts in the fall! In fact, I first saw Jensen Ackles make a surprise appearance in the pilot after he was trending on social media, so he won’t be throwing any stones for not seeing it. As for the adventures of Sam and Dean, I laughed. in the musical episode in season 10, desperate in “Despair”, I have used my Netflix subscription to rewatch the Death intro more than once and have had a great time with it red carpet for episode 300 . However, when it comes to the adventures of John and Mary… well, I don’t have it the winchesters a priority.
But honestly I’m tempted to try now it seems the winchesters will actually be shooting a mystery involving Dean instead of just casting it for fun once in a while as John and Mary get closer afterwards sharing their first kiss in late fall . My curiosity is officially piqued and based on the bad news that the winchesters have in November the show could definitely attract as many viewers as possible.
It’s not entirely surprising that multitudes of Supernatural fans did not flock the Winchesters from the beginning, since it is the first of three possible spin-offs to be released as a solo series, after the first one It got no further than a hatchback driver and highly publicized rebellious sisters it didn’t take off . The new show also launched without the benefit of a backdoor driver to secure it Supernatural fans would hear at least one episode, with nearly two full years between the end of the main series and the spinoff’s debut.
With these two years coming to a divisive end He wasted no time killing Dean. , there was certainly no guarantee that fans of the original would hear John and Mary’s origin story.
