Glacial cold, “inhumane” treatment… The shooting conditions of the reality show Squid Game: The Challengeinspired by the hit series and organized by Netflix, they are highlighted by competitors.
According to Sun, the candidates complain of having been mistreated during filming in recent days, and plan to file a complaint against the streaming platform. Thus, they claim in the tabloid columns that they have been “treated like animals.” Filming takes place in Bedford, a former Royal Air Force base, 50 miles northwest of London.
“They tortured us for eight hours,” denounces another candidate. “I know the show is supposed to be tough, but this was inhumane,” he adds, saying the production had privileged “good pictures” over helping struggling candidates.
pain and tears
Another evokes discomfort and tears among the candidates who “dropped like flies.”
The test, inspired by 1,2,3 Sun (Red light green light in English), particularly tested the candidates, while temperatures in the United Kingdom had fallen below freezing.
“Even affected by hypothermia, people were willing to stay as long as possible because there was a lot of money at stake. Too many people were determined not to move and stayed there too long,” testifies a candidate for the ‘Sun’.
“It was like a war zone, he adds. People were transported by doctors but we couldn’t say anything. If you talk, you’re eliminated. Some people couldn’t move their feet because it was so cold.”
The 456 participants compete for the sum of 3.7 million pounds (about 4.2 million euros).
“Proper Safety Procedures”
“All the claims of serious injuries are false,” responds the production, the Lambert and The Garden studios, as well as Netflix, which specifies in a press release released by Deadline that “the participants were prepared for this.”
“We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and have invested in all appropriate safety procedures,” the statement added.
The streaming platform announced last June the launch of a reality show inspired by Hwang Dong-hyeok’s series, titled Squid Game: The Challenge. Each participant in front, as in squid gamewin a series of games and be the last survivor.
“Featuring the largest cast in reality TV history, 456 real players will enter the game for a chance to win a life-changing $4.56 million cash prize,” the cast’s official website announced in that moment.
“Win or lose, all players will walk away unscathed,” was also obviously specified.
A detail that is important, when we know the fate reserved for the unfortunate candidates of the series. In fact, everyone is destined for death except the winner.
