Voice actors Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano talk about their mentors, including Batman icon Kevin Conroy

If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s and paid attention to Disney Channel and ABC’s TGIF block, you probably remember Will Friedle from his days playing Eric Matthews on boy meets worldand Christy Carlson Romano for playing Ren Stevens Stephen too. That said, Friedle and Romano are also excellent voice actors, the two have acted together Kim possible as Kim herself and Ron Stoppable, respectively. While chatting with Gossipify recently, the actors looked into the voice actors they’ve had, including Batman icon Kevin Conroy, who passed away last November.

Our own Erik Swann got to talk to Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano on behalf of their voice-over podcast. I hear voices (opens in a new tab)so it made sense to review the actors who have shown them the ropes when it comes to this type of acting future Batman, starring Kevin Conroy as the older Bruce Wayne. Friedle explained how helpful Conroy had been to him in those early days of voice acting with the following:

Kevin Conroy was my first mentor, my only real voiceover mentor. I had a lot of people that I looked up to and they definitely helped me but Kevin really went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and teach me the ropes. And I got to sit next to him, you know, every week for five years while we were doing the show. He’s a special man…he was a special man. God, I don’t even usually talk about him in the past tense. And therefore there will never be anyone like him. And he was, he’s Batman to me, and he was absolutely the person that helped me become who I was in the voiceover industry.

Currently future Batman is out, Kevin Conroy had already given many great performances as Bruce Wayne/Batman Batman: The Animated Series Yup The New Adventures of Batman. So, in addition to knowing DC’s Caped Crusader well, he had nearly a decade of voice-over experience, but instead of making sure he delivered his lines effectively, Conroy also made sure to give Will Friedle advice as he took his first steps. on his journey as a voice actor. Friedle and Conroy would bring Terry and Bruce together as a threesome League of Justice Unlimited episodes, the static shock episode “Future Shock” and the future Batman short film illustrated by Darwin Cooke for the 75th anniversary of Batman.

As for Christy Carlson Romano, she chose voice actress Lisa Schaffer as her main mentor for voice acting, as those two worked together with Will Friedle in Kim possible. Romano recalled his experience working with Schaffer thus:

I go out and say Lisa Schaffer. I will say Lisa Schaffer because she shaped my opinion of who Kim was day after day. …We had her as a guest [on our podcast]. She was our director, you know, our voice animation director for Kim Possible, and it came to 16 [or] A 17-year-old who came to see Kim, I brought that excitement and some of that sarcasm and, you know, determination that she needed. But at the same time, you have to be framed through it, it’s kind of non-judgmental and empowering, especially for a Kim Possible character, isn’t it? So Lisa Shaffer, [I take] Hats off to her as she really got me through this for many years.

Kim possible It ran for five seasons, plus two made-for-TV movies, from 2002 to 2007, and was the longest-running Disney Channel Original Series to date. Phineas and Ferb passed it in 2012. Christy Carlson Romano has since lent her voice to projects such as family man, Casper’s school of fear, The penguins of Madagascar Yup Big Hero 6: The Series, and has Lisa Schaffer to thank for giving her acting career such a great start, especially at a time when the actress had yet to reach adulthood. Romano also revisited the world of Kim possible a few years ago, she played pop singer Poppy Blu in the live-action television film adaptation.

Erik Swann’s conversation with Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano also included how they would feel boy meets world Yup Stephen too get animated restarts, plus how they “can’t escape” the impact of Kim possibleThe legacy of all those years later.
