It was pretty epic to see Jeremy Renner and Kyle Chandler kick ass and take names as the McLusky brothers in the first episode of Mayor of Kingtown. However, following the tragic death of Chandler’s character in the first episode, the sibling relationship that existed for the show’s first two seasons is between Renner and Taylor Handley, who plays the youngest of the McLusky brothers, Kyle. Now, Handley is opening up to Gossipify about her relationship with the show’s lead actor and the brotherly love their characters share.
Taylor Handley talks about collaborating with Jeremy Renner
While discussing the upcoming second season of Mayor of Kingtown, Handley opened up about how her relationship with Renner evolved from season 1 to season 2. She also said working with the river of wind star was a dream come true.
You know, Jeremy is one of my favorite actors. I told him that after the first season I wrote him a note. I was like, ‘man, you’re one of my favorite actors since I saw you in SWAT.’ So working with him, in front of him, is just amazing. Working with him makes me a better actor. So when you work with him, and you know, I can screw up anything I want, [and] it will always help you. She’ll always come, you know, get you. The man fails to say a false word of dialogue. And for that, I have the utmost respect for him. And just a solid, cool guy. Just in general.
Series co-creator Hugh Dillon said something similar about Renner. While discussing how relieved when Renner sent him a video after his snowplow accident Dillon also explained that the actor is “relentless,” “driven,” and “wants to find that honesty.” He also explained that Renner’s performance in season 2 is incredible and transformative, comparing him to Robert DeNiro in angry bull.
Handley had another take on Renner’s nuanced performance in season 2, and the sibling dynamic the two share, saying:
Our relationship is, you know, like brothers on the show, you see a lot more of them. While last year he was working on his own stuff and Kyle is working on his stuff, this season they bond and you see a lot more of that sibling dynamic.
It’s very exciting to know that we have more of the relationship between Kyle and Mikes in time 2, especially after the traumatic motín in the captivity of the time 1 finale. And then what Handley said, he’s also very excited about his character relationship. with his older brother, he grew up.
Taylor Handley talks about Kyle and Mike’s relationship with the mayor of Kingstown
When it comes to the characters Handley and Renner play on screen, the actor behind Kyle made it clear how much they love each other, saying:
Well, there’s still an abiding brotherly love between Kyle and Mike.
While we saw a lot of Mike and Kyle together in Season 1, they were both on different paths with only the occasional crossing over. However, Handley said we’ll see them more together in Season 2, and not only that, due to the traumatic events of Season 1, they’ll be more together than ever.
[Their relationship is] mentioned in season 1, there wasn’t a lot of good, actually, you know, thinking about it, there was, you know, Kyle was going to hang out with Mike and they were just recounting their day and reporting situations that they go through. So that’s not the case anymore [in Season 2], but now you’ve been through trauma and you know, really sketchy situations with these characters. I feel like this means more this season.
I know I’m very curious and can’t wait to see them together on screen. For me, the familiar look of Mayor of Kingtown it’s one of the best parts of the show, and after all that Kyle, Mike and the McLuskies have been through, it’s nice to see that when the world is apparently against them, they have each other.
It was a point Handley made as well, saying that the brothers always look out for each other no matter what.
And really, we’re doubling down on watching each other’s backs, no matter what. I think there’s a point where I’m like, ‘We’re all we have, you know, like you and me, like the other brothers are gone, like it’s you and me now. We are all we have. We need to know, I ride for you and I die for you. You know, we are brothers to the end.
What Mayor of Kingtown dives deeper into its second season, and Milo, the crime boss from Aiden Gillen’s Big Bad becomes a bigger part of the picture, it will be nice to see Kyle and Mike support each other even more. It’s also wonderful to hear Handley talk about his relationship with Renner and how much he enjoys working with him, while the avengers the star is recovering from his accident .
Which Dillon mentioned plans for season 3 of kingtown And with Renner on his way back to full health, and Handley speaking so positively about working with the actor, I’d love to see more McLusky brothers kick ass and take names on this Taylor Sheridan show for years to come. .
