you watched Carkenny the other day and found yourself quoting ridiculously specific lines, right? The fast-talking Canadian sitcom is known for its hilariously unique words and phrases, which have influenced the vocabulary of pop culture since Hulu picked up the show in 2018. Like the 11th season, as well as a Carkenny spin-off, which just came out, I had the privilege of catching up with the sour Carkenny cast to see how the project has evolved over the years, and I promise you they have not disappointed or held back.
Evan Stern, who plays Roald on the show, not only talked about the phrases that have passed from the show to his vocabulary, but also the ones his own family uses as well. As he explained to Gossipify:
I definitely find myself doing the “very tight, very nice, very nice” thing. Like “very much”. I find myself doing a lot and saying “be right” in my life, all the time. It’s so annoying how many times I say this. And then my brothers say “to be honest.” I’m like, ‘I’m going to kill you.’
While I think most of the characters on the show could have their own spinoffs, some of the main ones Carkenny The cast members really help keep the ship together as they deliver tightly scripted banter, even if much of the series feels off the cuff. Wayne’s “girl tom” kicker sister Katie, played by Michelle Mylett, is one such star, who was quick to talk about the impact the show has had on her day-to-day vocabulary. Michelle had this to say about the dialogue:
My God. Oh, I can’t say ‘to be honest’ without saying ‘Michelle…’. I think I’m afraid I’m on a show and then I mention the show I’m on, even if it’s not intentional. So I really try to be aware of that because it’s a little… embarrassing.
with the recent shoresy The spinoff Fall premiered late last year and with an 11th season under its belt, it doesn’t look like the Hulu show is showing any signs of slowing down.
