HBO Max caused a stir in the streaming world last year when the company decided to pull some productions that had already been filmed. The streamer has shelved high-profile projects like bad girl Yup Scoob! : holiday destination after both films completed primary production. (The service has also begun removing posted content, including shows like Chubby Chronicles and the HBO series Vinylwhich was produced by Martin Scorsese.) Now Netflix is doing the same by canceling two feature films, which were meant to premiere on the platform.
Netflix has pulled its planned original productions Heredity Yup Housewife from his whiteboard, according to the Hollywood reporter. While this sounds similar to HBO Max’s large number of cancellations, there’s a key difference to note here. In this case, Netflix offers filmmakers the option to buy their finished projects elsewhere. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer reportedly canceled its productions for tax purposes, meaning projects could no longer be sent to other entertainment entities that could benefit from them.
These cancellations come at an interesting time for the California-based streaming service. The company posted losses last year due to the number of defaulting subscribers and costly project funding. However, the mega-streamer has recently introduced an ad-based option which has helped it compete against other companies. Also, in 2022, the entertainment giant had a slew of hugely popular movies including Crystal Onion: a mystery at loggerheads Yup the gray man. It’s also worth noting that there have been a few notable TV releases the vigilante, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story Yup Wednesday tear.
As for movies downloaded from Netflix, Heredity is a horror thriller starring Peyton List and Rachel Nichols. It tells the story of a man who invites his separated children into his home because he believes he is about to be murdered. To get them to help him stay alive, he risks their inheritance. On another side, HousewifeStarring Alice Braga and Kris Holden-Ried, it’s a sci-fi thriller about a smart house gone wrong.
Little is known about the decision to download these particular titles, but what can be said is that the streamer and HBO Max aren’t the only ones making seemingly surprising changes to the content. Starz pulled major series from its service this year, including dangerous liaisons, become Elizabeth Yup Increase. Paramount+ also dropped a workaholics series based shortly before filming began. There has been a lot of talk about cost-cutting measures in the age of streaming and which projects get a boost from a specific streaming service and which ones get axed.
Only time will tell if Netflix decides to upload any more filmed productions, and we’ll have to wait and see where the two films ended up as well.
