It has been said many times that being part of a big franchise is a double-edged sword. This proved to be especially true for the actors who made up the young ensemble of the Harry Potter movie . While starring in these high-profile films made it easier for actors to land roles after Harry’s story ended, it also came with some serious drawbacks, with Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, opening up reflecting on the time he. performing one third of an iconic trio for a decade.
Grint recalled how close he was to Ron, saying he loved playing him and had a lot in common with his Weasley brother. The actor explained that he too grew up in a large family with many siblings, he said. feverish activity that for this he could understand Ron’s insecurity about not being seen, he said:
He felt the difficulty of being seen, of being eclipsed. In movies, we merge into one. Ultimately, I was playing myself. The lines were blurry.
The actor also said that he responds to “Ron” if someone calls him by his character’s name. “He IS my middle name,” Grint explained.
While I can totally see how having so much in common with your character makes the job a lot easier, it also creates a serious handicap. The story noted that Grint started working on Harry Potter movies when he was 11 and they ended when he was 21. Playing a character for so long comes with great challenges and the actor said:
Potter was so full of… [filming] all year, then we would promote the rest of the time. It was quite stuffy. I wanted to take a break, reflect on everything… It was an out of body experience for a while, but I think we ended at the right time. If we continue, it may have deteriorated.
I see very well where it comes from, there comes a time when you have to move on and if the welcome drags on things get complicated. Fortunately Potter it ended “on cue” according to Grint, and he recalls the experience fondly, even if there were a few snags.
Many of the actors who were part of the youth ensemble of the Harry Potter The movies were about transition difficulties Potter in adult life . As Grint explained, for him it was all about extricating himself from Ron Weasley, since they had become so intertwined. Emma Watson realized how “protected” she was playing Hermione. Matthew Lewis explained how difficult it was to escape Neville’s shadow. Tom Felton has also been open about his transition. , saying being in those films was a “big downer” when it came to landing other early roles. However, the Draco actor also said he was “grateful” for the challenges as he was able to challenge himself and learn from the experience.
The challenges of growing up after those movies seem really tough. However, it’s amazing how all of these actors have thrived and now have wonderfully unique careers outside of it Harry Potter.
grint said would be ready to return Harry Potter if the timing was right and everyone was involved. For now though, she has many exciting new projects in the pipeline. already appeared in TV show 2023 with a new season of the Apple TV+ series Waiter. made way to cinema calendar 2023 also, since he’s part of the stacked cast of M. Night Shyamalan call the boothIt will hit theaters on February 3.
So even though it was hard to get out of the world of harry potter, Grint did it with grace and created some very exciting projects over the next few years.
