Warning: spoilers for The Last of Us Episode 3, “Long Long Time,” is up for grabs.
I picked the worst fucking night to see myself again The best (and saddest) Disney/Pixar scene As far as . Not that there is Right It’s time to break hearts through a history of dating and loss, but last Sunday was the most inappropriate date of the TV show 2023 participate in such a story. I say this because through my contact with Carl Fredrickson and Ellie’s story coincided with the same day as this week’s episode of The Last of UsI tripped over a double blow of pain.
Why did I watch the opening of I Watch Up on Sunday?
Admittedly, it was a random decision that came after Twitter started with a As far as– related production. People were talking about what the next Disney+ spin-off short would look like. excavated days will premiere in February (and is the latest entry to voice the late Ed Asner). Because of this upcoming story about Carl’s first date after losing Ellie, people started to wonder if they were emotionally ready for the big moment in Fredrickson’s life.
And there you go. Someone posted the clip of the film’s legendary heartbreaking prologue to give their point of view. I haven’t seen the movie for a while and although the previous ending of excavated days it had its bittersweet meaning, it wasn’t the same thing. So I watched the clip, cried like I knew I would, and went about my Sunday night business.
How The Last Of Us Episode Three surprised me and reminded me of Up
Now when it comes to The Last of Us, hbo sold the third episode so sneakily that I have to applaud them. As someone who started but never finished the Naughty Dog game from which the series was adapted, I had no idea of Bill and Frank’s relationship. So you can imagine what I expected when watching the trailer for “Long Long Time”, which featured the following image of the episode’s content:
Power you Do you see any indicators that this cable network apocalypse would break hearts left and right based on this trailer? I probably couldn’t, but again Episode 2 ended pretty much the last playthrough I played in the game. While I knew how this story would evolve in the game, it changed significantly for the HBO adaptation.
After reading a bit, I agree with the opinion that “Long Long Time” invoice amended and frank for the better . Instead of telling a story of regret and estrangement, The Last of Us used its television adaptation to develop a love story as beautiful and sweet as the strawberries in our favorite couple’s garden. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett have gone from restless friends to lovers in a sweet and gentle way, bonding over their mutual love of good food, good wine and Linda Ronstadt’s music.
When this decades-long romance reached its last good day, I was in tears again. Watching Bill process Frank’s wishes to get married, dine well, and go into eternity was enough to completely destroy me. Which was naturally canceled with the arrival of this last dinner, after which Bill decides to take this walk with her husband, satisfied with the life he was leading with her beloved. When all was said and done, my wife and I were crying, and I was super motivated to reach out and hug her too.
What this episode tells me about The Last Of Us as a series
I knew the show was an apocalyptic story dealing with issues of trust, protection, and loss. This realization shocked me even more in the premiere, when Joel (Pedro Pascal) desperately tries to save his daughter Sarah (Nico Parker) after being fatally shot. I figured this would be the most exciting checkpoint I’d ever come across until maybe some of the later episodes, but that assumption was pretty silly.
After this week’s episode, I really don’t know what to expect from Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s masterful drama. All I know is that I will leave some room on my emotional plate for the next few Sundays and maybe do some rounds of golden eye 007 before returning to the waste The Last of Us. And if my experience with Up is any indication, I’d probably be better off avoiding the Pixar films, in case I risk seeing a different film with an emotional narrative that overlaps with the series.
Trust me when I tell you it’s worth it. So if you delayed your departure The Last of Us, or are you as aware of it as I am, an HBO Max subscription will keep the water running and the heart beating for the rest of this first season. Also know that if you’re in the mood for another good cry, you can stream using a Disney+ subscription.
