Warning! The following contains spoilers for the field Winter season two first episodes “Stampede” and “Murder In The Clearing”. Read at your own risk!
field returned to NBC for a gripping two-part premiere that certainly made up for all the weeks he was away. Viewers were invited to gavin and the grand yet flawed plan of the Chasm survivors to destroy the portal, and an even grander plan that set off a lot of events that will likely unfold throughout season two.
The short version of what happened is that Gavin decided to stop downloading the virus that would have destroyed the portal created by The Lazarus Project. His reasons for doing so, as well as everything that happened afterward, needs a little more explanation. Let’s see why Gavin decided to abandon the plan he fought so hard for the execution and other events of the winter premiere.
Gavin agreed to help James find Dr. Moore and his research.
Gavin downloaded the virus and was nearly able to destroy the portal that created sinkholes in the 1980s every time it was used. He only abandoned the plan after his father separated, James, He made an offer he couldn’t refuse. James told Gavin he could help save The day before, who Gavin once saw dying in a vision. Gavin agreed, but only after a further promise from James that he could repair the portal’s destructive side effects and potentially trap everyone in the past at home.
La Brea will be back for another season, but fans might not be so excited after reading the details.
Once the virus was destroyed, Gavin’s long-lost father explained that his son could help him send everyone home and stop the portal from creating chasms if he can find Dr. Moore, a former employee of the Lazarus Project. James had proof that Moore was close to finding a way to stabilize the portal, but he didn’t have all of his research to continue the work. Gavin decided to trust James in the hope that he could achieve his goals of stopping the destruction of the portals and returning everyone to their time.
Seems like a bad idea since no one outside of Lazarus seems to trust the organization, but we’ll see how Gavin fares. Also, it seemed that Eve had already avoided the death she saw in her vision when she escaped being trapped in the cave with a bear. Maybe there will be another threat soon? Will Gavin even be willing to help James if he no longer believes Eve is in danger? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Caroline found the investigation but made Riley swear not to tell Gavin.
Gavin and a team went looking for Dr. Moore and they found him! The bad news was that he was long dead, but they also managed to find a nearby cave to do their research. At first it seemed like the hideout was failing until Riley discovered a folder of documents hidden behind a rock in the wall. Riley showed the file to Gavin’s mother, carolinewho confirmed that this was the information James requested for the portal.
Caroline didn’t have much time to peruse the news pages, but she confirmed to Riley that it looked promising and there was a chance they could go home. Caroline needed more time to go through the data and she made Riley swear that in the meantime she would not tell Gavin or anyone else that they found her information because she didn’t trust her ex husband’s investigation , James. With everything at stake, I can’t imagine it will be okay if Gavin finds out in the next few episodes of field.
Ty Character agreed to be James’s psychiatrist
After an episode in which he faced huge health problems, Ty he turned to Lazarus in hopes of getting treatment for his terminal brain tumor. James set Ty up on a date after hearing that he was a friend of Gavin’s and had some good news. Lazarus had the cure for brain tumors and was willing to offer Ty the treatment to cure him completely.
In return, James wanted Ty to use his skills as a psychiatrist in sessions with him in the future. Project director Lazarus said the staff often rely on him to make all the tough decisions and would appreciate the opportunity to have Ty as a sounding board as he processes the decisions he needs to make. Again, James looks sleazy, seemingly taking advantage of Ty’s desperation to find a cure for his own purposes.
Virgil killed Wyatt and the Exiles are involved

When Lucas thought so virgil he had committed the murder, he was guilty of ignoring his instincts and letting Virgil go. It was the right thing to do, after all, since Lucas only had a hunch with no other hard evidence that Virgil had a knife collection.
However, Lucas later apologized to Virgil for the allegation field he revealed shortly after that an apology was unnecessary. Virgil tossed a note he had from exile on fire before him and bore the same logo as the homicide weapon linked to Wyatt’s death. If you secretly work for the exiles, it can only mean bad things and more trouble beyond what we’ve already learned.
