Will Friedle’s Eric Matthews can be seen as the goofy older brother now, but in previous seasons of boy meets world, was the pretty girl crazy high schooler with a new girlfriend every week. One such girlfriend of the week turned out to be the mighty ducks former Margaret Moreau. The two actors shared one boy meets worldThe most famous kissing scenes. The timing was pretty steamy at the time considering the ABC sitcom’s young audience. Looking back on the suggestive scene, Moreau and Friedle finally opened up about how embarrassing it was for them.
In the Season 2 episode “Pairing Off”, Cory catches Eric and his girlfriend Rebecca making out in his parents’ bed. While things seemed to get hot and heavy between the two teens, filming the intimate moment wasn’t as much fun as viewers might have thought. In an appearance on the rewatch podcast Pod meets the world, the two former teen stars have finally opened up about what it was like filming the kiss scene. Friedle explained how the week before shooting day went:
I remember this week very well. I remember some things from the series… But I remember very specific things from this week. One thing I’ve been talking about with nausea is that you and I get along great. I was very comfortable with you. I thought we had a good dynamic. But I also remember that I was immediately immersed in the kiss, and then we were in bed and everyone surrounded us.
As the actors have repeatedly stated, shooting intimate scenes is not as glamorous and exciting as the final results show. It looked even more intimidating for the teenage actors. Thinking back to the kissing scene, Friedle asked Moreau if he remembered the block they had made for the scene. previous BMW the guest star barely remembered that part, but she recalled her feelings on the day of filming:
Yes, I know, but in a cowardly way. I was excited to play the part and we got along great. So, it felt like you and I were there with all these grown men and maybe there were some women there, but I don’t remember. And we were doing our best to be adults about it. He was probably a little excited too. But I was also like, ‘I hope I get it right.’ I was also like ‘Why can’t we figure this out? We are smart. We have chemistry. We will get it.
It seems that Moreau was ready for her and actor Eric Matthews to take over the bed scene, but she didn’t want to step on his toes. They mighty ducks The star questioned a decision by the producers because she couldn’t understand why Friedle should film about her. She felt the act added nothing to the steamy scene. Despite her being watched by male staff, the former child star has found a good side working with the BMW star for one week:
As I recall, Will. The reward for this embarrassment is that we enjoy kissing. [I was like] ‘Okay, I have to. This is funny. So I have good memories of him. and so, I probably blocked anything that felt weird.
Hearing Moreau’s story on set helped Friedle ease his anxiety about the scene thirty years ago. She said the funny moments were mutual for him too, saying:
It’s good. Again, I have no bad memories of it, frankly.
It seems that Friedle and Moreau have found comfort in each other in a room full of adults. They hot and humid american summer the alum felt safe with the actor. However, she was honest about being a guest star on the hit sitcom.
I think we had fun. But it was an awkward thing to do with a group of adult strangers for me. It was also the power dynamic of being the host and not being able to [have a say].
He called Friedle polite for his handling of the intimate scene. However, Friedle was quite anxious about the scene as he reminisced about the “layers of nerves” born out of his insecurities in high school. He said working with Moreau was enjoyable during his week on set. They Kim possible The alum echoed Moreau’s earlier sentiment of wanting to weigh the hot and heavy moment:
He was like the actors, so he was like, ‘Let’s find out.’ Let’s see how we’ll do it. But you know we are young. You’re the guest star where I was playing [the] Second season. She still wasn’t talking like ‘No, I have this.’ She was not yet part of the vernacular.
If Friedle thus felt like a series regular, it’s no wonder Moreau didn’t feel allowed to speak as the only guest. He explained how he felt about the scene in the years that followed:
I don’t even know if I would have had the words… For years I was ashamed of that grown-up kiss I had to give because no one was saying ‘She’s adorable’. They are children, and it is a childish moment. I misunderstood you and we were supposed to be kids who make mistakes.
They BMW the guest star felt that she and Friedle were seen as adults rather than two teenagers crossing the line. While doing the ABC sitcom was just a job for Friedle, she reflected on the now-adult set experience she has during her teen years:
I’m glad it was you because it made it so much more comfortable. I remembered we talked about it and everything about it. Again, at the time, it was just work. It was fun, but still it was work. Only later do you look at the whole situation as an adult. Now I put myself in the shoes of the adults there, and try to imagine standing with a group of friends watching two young seventeen or eighteen year olds kiss on a bed and try to tell them how to make it look like it’s going to go Street. [far]. And this is where I’m a little scared.
Seeing your teenage son as an adult might make any actor cringe in hindsight. Knowing how the scene had been set up made it even more difficult for Friedle to reconcile the influence of the adult staff. Even Moreau said she would never give a teenager that experience until they remembered that ’90s sitcoms had a different vibe.
No, I mean, I was seventeen. You wouldn’t do that to your child. And it was out of time for all of us to accept that. I think part of our comfort at the time was that we didn’t even realize we were uncomfortable and feeling [ it at times]. Achieving many of these things was perhaps a little questionable at times, but handling them as gracefully as possible.
Looking back to the 90s, there were some protocols and practices in Hollywood that just wouldn’t work in today’s world. Of course, her account of the kissing scene didn’t seem too far from the truth. boy meets world the cast talks about being child actors and dealing with rejection.
Marguerite Moreau was only the last boy meets world featured guest to talk about his experiences as Adam Scott explains his disappearance in Season 3 and Lindsey Price’s thoughts on fighting racism on the ABC sitcom.
