M. Night Shyamalan’s career is long and varied, to say the least. The director is known for writing and directing one of the most iconic films horror movie , The sixth sensebut he’s also the guy who was smart (and some people’s choice to do it worst movie ever) The Ultimate Master of Air . Viewers can have very different opinions on the quality of the Indian American author’s work. But the Village director has a film in your filmography that you would like to wipe off the face of the earth? Well, like all of M. Night’s best and worst work, his answer has a twist.
M. Night Shyamalan appeared on us ReelBlend podcasts to talk about their latest release, A shot in the cabin. During the discussion, the director was asked if he had to sacrifice one of his masterpieces to save the world, which film would he choose? Indeed, the director has a choice, but he’s thrown a curveball into the mix. He told ReelBlend:
Well, I would never tell you. But to make things worse for you guys, I found one. If you ask a blocked question, I’ll give you the answer. We will see. One day, if we take pictures and you make me take enough pictures.
Well done, Mr. Night, well done. Someone give this man a chance! while the Unbreakable The director is not yet ready to answer which of his films he is willing to sacrifice, he did not hesitate to answer which film he prefers and the answer, once again, may surprise you.
In an interview with HQasked which of his films was his favorite, and the director did not respond with his Academy Award, The sixth sense. Instead, the director says he likes movies better of him with “a quirky nature.” He told the publication:
Those for whom I have the greatest affinity are those who have retained this particular nature. The Protégés, The Lady of the Water, The Visit and this film, [Old (2021)]. The edges don’t fade, I was able to, especially in the photography and the casting and the balance between tragedy and weirdness… It was broad enough for me to be here and be different.
Unbreakable AND Visit are two of the director’s films that most agree to be among the best films of M. Night Shyamalan, while lady in the water he is considered one of their weakest. This is definitely an interesting answer from Shyamalan. My favorite is always The sixth sensefollowed closely panels.
Only time will tell where the director’s latest work stands in his overall filmography. One can’t help but wonder what the director would be offered if he had the chance to prevent the end of the world. Yet reviews of the home invasion apocalyptic thriller, A shot in the cabin were mostly solid (although Gossipify’s Eric Eisenberg was disappointed with the film). And given that initial buzz, I’m not sure this would be the film M. Night Shyamalan would be willing to sacrifice.
