It is the great return of U2 to the stage. The group took advantage of the Super Bowl this Sunday to announce a residency in Las Vegas. In a commercial broadcast at halftime of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs in Glendale, Arizona, and the Philadelphia Eagles, the Irish made fun of their program titled baby.
This is the title of their seventh album, released in 1991 and dotted with hits like One, mysterious way EITHER Even better than the real stuff.. It is also on the guitar riffs of this piece that the commercial ends.
The promotional clip features a mysterious “unidentified flying object” in the sky, a reference to the Las Vegas venue where the group will perform, The Sphere, which evoked for many fans the Chinese balloon and “objects” shot down in recent days by the army in the american sky.
“The US government has removed advertisements for U2 concerts,” joked US columnist Dave Schilling.
“Best marketing operation I’ve ever seen, even fooled the military,” quipped another.
This series of concerts is scheduled for the fall of 2023. It’s been 4 years since the group took the stage, since the stadium tour titled eXpERIENCE + iNNOCENCE.
“U2 have not played on stage since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage to see the faces of our fans again, they said in a statement (…) We are the right band, ‘ACHTUNG BABY’ the right album. , and Sphere, the right place to take your live music experience to the next level.
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr, one of the founding members of the band along with Bono and The Edge, will not be performing at the upcoming shows.
