The personal meaning of art and family will tear you apart came to my mind later, after I had already established myself as a filmmaker, as a director. and Kate [Capshaw] and i started raising a family and we started having kids. We now have seven children. The choice I had to make in taking a job that moved me to another country for four or five months where I wouldn’t see my family every day was art and family. [debate] it was really heartbreaking, heartbreaking, kind of an experience.

It must be something for him to look back on that moment in his professional life and say he doesn’t regret turning it down Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which ultimately goes to the talented Chris Columbus. Overall, I’d say things went as they should.
