Narratively speaking, Thanos’ goals were pretty straightforward in developing the Infinity Saga, but the same can’t be said for Kang the Conqueror. In the comics, Kang is a time traveler with extraordinary technology and power, and it’s been established in the MCU that he’s not a single entity. Before Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniafans have already discovered a version of the character during the season 1 finale of Loki (dubbed The One That Remains), and that alone sets him apart from Thanos.
Addressing this complexity in a way that audiences can understand is another hurdle facing the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we delve deeper into the Multiverse saga, and it’s something to keep in mind as Kang’s story continues to unfold. As Stephen Broussard explained, every aspect of the character is used to help fans better understand who he is as we get ever closer to the action set in 2025. Avengers: Kang Dynasty. So to feel that we’re delving into new narrative territory, I think, has been exciting for us and interesting for us. Every movie should give you the tools to figure it out. One of the main ways the Marvel filmmakers achieve this is not just by keeping Kang as a background villain. With Thanos, fans got a glimpse of the character in the post-credits scenes and he had a very small role in the premiere.
