It seems that Netflix is pulling another page from the HBO Max book by announcing that a great show, which is also a Netflix Original, will be removed from the platform. While the former streaming service has canceled shows left and right, it’s now pulling down a full series altogether, as fans have noted. arrested development will leave the platform on March 14th.
While Netflix is canceling shows that are only a season or two old, this removal is a new move by the company and, in my opinion, a surprising one. The streamer posted on arrested development page (opens in a new tab) which would leave on March 14th. It’s unclear if the show will move on to another streamer or get lost in the streaming abyss. That’s because the hit sitcom is in a fantastic position as Netflix saved it from cancellation after Fox turned it down and made the last two seasons original for the streamer.
Shows come and go from Netflix; Friends moved to HBO Max, Office AND Parks and Amusement transferred to Peacock, and the list goes on. so yes arrested development falling into this category, which would have been based on seasons 1-3, it would have made sense that when a contract was made, he would have moved on. However, this cult classic is in an odd position as Netflix saved it from cancellation and brought it back for seasons 4 and 5, making it a Netflix Original.
Trying to guess where arrested development it might land next, which has happened to quite a few HBO shows worth watching. following the surprise cancellations from the west AND Martha which was in production for season 2 When the news came, everyone the shows have found new homes on a third-party, free, ad-supported stream (FAST) or another platform. While programs like La Nevers, the time traveler’s wife AND the west they will become FAST streamers, Martha Season 2 will come to STARZ. So it will be interesting to see if the comedy lands on a third-party platform or a more mainstream streamer.
Considering arrested development started on Fox, I could see the series moving to Hulu, as many Fox shows are available on that platform. It would also make sense for the semi-Netflix Original to move to another platform after the deal ends, considering Reckless it moved to Disney+ even though it originally came from Netflix.
However, it is also possible that we will never see arrested development again (unless you have it on DVD) considering last time Netflix released an HBO Max , canceled two films that had already been completed. In the case of HBO Max, his films will likely never see the light of day; However, Netflix has not only thrown these films into a forgettable black hole, but has given filmmakers the option to purchase their projects. So the Jason Bateman and Will Arnett-starring comedy may not find a new home, however, given its cult following, I imagine we’ll see it appear soon.
Even if you won’t be on Netflix for a long time and given your future unknown, be sure to use yours Netflix subscription watch arrested development now before leaving the streamer on March 14th.
