FBI: The International’s Christiane Paul Talks ‘Great Gift’ of Returning as Jaeger and Fly Squad Hunting Spy Agents

FBI: International returns to CBS with an episode that delivers what feels like a cliffhanger case, plus an exciting reunion for the Fly Team. with none other than Katrin Jaeger of Europol . The former team member was promoted to Europol at the end of the first season and replaced by Megan “Smitty” Garretson . Jaeger will have to call his former teammates for help with a case, and former series regular Christiane Paul has spoken about the “great gift” of returning to FBI: International!

Jaeger’s reunion with the rest of the Fly team (including Forrester after he managed to clean up the mess that almost sends him back to the United States. ) will spring into action in Berlin, with FBI agents joining her on its turf. The former co-workers broke up well at the end of season 1, although it was clear they would be missing out on each other. Speaking to Gossipify, Christiane Paul previewed the reunion:

In fact, it was lovely and truly a gift to work with. I don’t know if you know this, but most of this episode was filmed in Berlin. So everyone came to Berlin, not just the actors. [but] I also think of the whole Hungarian team, like everyone, costume designer, make-up artist, witness, electrician, gripper, they all came. It was really wonderful. We almost cried to see each other again I must say. Yes, I was very happy that they brought everyone and generated this episode in Berlin. It really was a great, great gift. A Christmas present indeed! Because we shot this episode close to Christmas. It was the last episode before the Christmas holidays.

FBI: International is based in Budapest, Hungary, but the team obviously brought a bit of Budapest with them to Berlin for the episode titled “Glimmers and Ghosts,” which airs February 14. The episode may air too late to be a Christmas present. to fans like Christiane Paul, but it can be considered a Valentine’s Day gift. That doesn’t mean the relationship itself is a romantic trip to Germany, of course!

Like her character, Christiane Paul is German, so this time there was a personal connection between the actress and the case concerning the location. When asked if being able to film Glimmers and Ghosts in Berlin made the experience even more special, Paul replied:

Yes, because I actually live in Berlin! It seemed like everyone was closing in on me and it was a lot of fun. Vinessa Vidotto, for example, stayed there longer. He extended his stay and we spent a day walking the streets, having a glass of champagne… So we had a day off together, which was great to reconnect, and it was great.

Vinessa Vidotto plays Vo in FBI: International, and spending time with Christiane Paul that didn’t involve crime-fighting for a hit primetime TV show. Characters typically don’t have much free time International Unless it ends with a crime being committed and requiring an investigation, then it’s nice to know that the two actresses were only able to date for fun.

Of course, not everything will be fun and entertaining FBI: International when it comes to what the Fly Team brings to Berlin. Christiane Paul teased the “Ghosts and Lights” case, which will involve spies from an era that dates back to when the Berlin Wall still divided Germany into East and West. The actress shared:

There was a murder in Berlin, a retired math teacher… obviously by an American citizen. We know this because we have an audio recording of the killer’s voice and he appears to be an American, which is why I call my former colleagues, the FBI: International Fly Team, and they break in and we find that the victim, the former math teacher, he was actually a spy agent for the East German Stasi. The whole story goes back to the East German past, so I would say this case is very interesting. And not everyone, obviously, is happy, but this is a special case, because of this connection with something political, what happened in Germany, like fifty or thirty years ago, and that makes this episode, I think, very special.

While the case looks serious enough for those caught by Stasi spy agents circa 2023, any excuse for Jaeger to reunite with his old team Fly looks good enough for fans! It’s safe to say that the murder of the Stasi spy agent is just the beginning of the “Glimmers and Ghosts” story, and it looks like a must-see episode. How far has Jaeger come since season 1, when his career seemed doomed because of someone from Interpol who has a vendetta against her!
