A symbolic present. Last Friday, after announcing that he would go to London this Sunday to attend Elizabeth II’s funeral scheduled for Monday, Emmanuel Macron also revealed the gift that France was going to offer the new sovereign Charles III. It is a photo album of the “successive visits” of Queen Elizabeth and her son in France, the President of the Republic had detailed.
This day, BFMTV has been able to consult the different pages of this book which, according to Emmanuel Macron, “is not a prize gift but a very sober” and “symbolic” gift.
Throughout 45 pages, the photographs chronologically go through the meetings between Elizabeth II and the different French leaders, from René Coty in 1957 to Emmanuel Macron, passing through Charles De Gaulle, Georges Pompidou, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy or Francois Hollande.
“I think there is a long history of state visits and visits by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles during those decades and I think it is important for the king to see that,” Emanuel Macron said.
Elizabeth II visited France several times during her reign and her last visit was in 2014. She then went to Normandy as part of the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Charles III also visited France several times while he was still a prince.
Invitation
