Dr. Ben Song masterfully made his way through another leap in the latest episode of breakthrough, and by this point, you’ve probably proved to the doubters that you’re as good a time traveler as Sam Beckett. Even so, there are still plenty of fans interested in Scott Bakula’s return, and the show quickly established that Sam could still jump in. So could he appear on the show in season 2? Bakula previously said he wouldn’t be returning, but executive producer Deborah Pratt’s latest comments to Gossipify leave me optimistic.
Deborah Pratt was co-creator of the original breakthrough, and serves as the revival’s executive producer and directs the first-season episode “Family Style.” After learning about the cooking shows that influenced his episode, I asked Pratt what the odds were of Scott Bakula reprising his role as Sam Beckett when the show returns for a second season. Pratt confirmed that he’s still welcome and discussed any questions you have about Sam Becket:
The door is always open. It is a show about hope. I will never lose hope. She is also a good person. I think one of the things that made the show captivating and continuous was that [Sam] He hasn’t come home, but I want to know more about him, I want to know where he is. And so, I hope we find a way to continue his story. AND [I hope] the audience that fell in love with it, and continues to grow and fall in love with it, accompanies this forthcoming journey wherever and whenever it goes and whatever medium it is in. Opportunities abound as these stories need to be told
Deborah Pratt expressed the same sentiment as breakthrough showrunner Martin Gero confirms the door is still open for the return of Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett. Then he took it a step further and talked about the questions he had and still have about the character of Sam. If an executive producer is interested in those questions about Sam, I can’t help but think he will go out of his way to find to regain the character.
Details on why Scott Bakula didn’t appear on breakthrough aren’t entirely clear, as the actor is said to have been involved with the show for much of its development until it abruptly ended. Still, the producers’ continued interest in seeing Sam at the top of the recast makes me optimistic that Bakula could falter in the position of him in Season 2. As Deborah Pratt said, it would be nice to see what Sam’s fate will be. to the season. original series
For those who need an upgrade or don’t have a Peacock Premium subscription to enjoy the original breakthrough, Sam Beckett’s end was tragic. The series finale revealed, via the title card, that Sam was never able to find his way back. The Awakening picked up on this storyline, adding that Sam Beckett could still time-jump over twenty years later, or possibly be dead.
The fact that Sam never came home makes Dr. Ben Song’s decision to jump all the more heartbreaking, so it could be argued that Scott Bakula’s lack of involvement added more drama to the awakening. It also allowed the show to stand on its own in season one and could make his hypothetical involvement in the future less disruptive to the show as a whole.
It honestly looks new breakthrough he created the best way to get Sam Beckett back, which gives me more hope that Bakula and others will see that and make the effort to bring Sam back to prime time. breakthrough airs Mondays on NBC at 10 p.m. ET. I’m still hoping there’s a secret cameo from Scott Bakula as Sam before the Season 1 finale, but if not, luckily there’s a Season 2 I can’t wait for!
