9 and 7 years old, but already on a mission. Prince George and Princess Charlotte, son and daughter of Prince William, great-grandchildren of the queen and respectively 2nd and 3rd in the order of succession to the British crown, will parade this Monday after the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II, whose funeral was held in Westminster Abbey.
George and Charlotte will walk behind their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton. They will be in front of their uncle Prince Harry and their aunt Meghan Markle. Prince Louis, her 4-year-old younger brother, will not participate in the event.
The young man was considered too young. An absence that will be felt: The boy nearly stole the royal family show last June during Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee. His funny faces had been very popular with the viewers.
Absent from the funeral
However, George and Charlotte will not take part in the burial which will take place later in the day at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, west of London. This is where the queen will be buried alongside her father, King George VI, and her husband, Prince Philip. This private ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m. French time.
The state funeral, scheduled for Monday at noon French time, will bring together some 2,000 guests, including more than 500 foreign dignitaries, from Emmanuel Macron to Joe Biden. This Monday will be a public holiday in the United Kingdom for this state funeral, the first since Winston Churchill’s in 1965.
