The leader of the SEAL team reflects on Clay’s mentality and future after his “traumatic” experience in the premiere of the sixth season

Spoilers ahead of the sixth season premiere of team of seals“Low impact.”

The premiere of the sixth season of team of seals it’s here, and it’s been as intense as ever. After ambushing Bravo in the savage season five finale, the team found themselves trying to get through the fight. And sadly, Clay was left in serious condition, suffering from severe leg injuries and internal bleeding. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that the doctors had to amputate Clay’s leg to save him, and now showrunner Spencer Hudnut talks about Bravo 6’s mentality and future with the team after the “traumatic” event.

Whereas Max Thieriot was also shooting his new CBS series land of fire midway through production, it was no surprise to see Clay take the brunt of the ambush. We got an idea of what was going to happen in the thrilling trailer for season six of team of seals, but that still couldn’t have prepared fans for this premiere. Spencer Hudnut spoke to TV Insider about the episode, which offers some insight into Clay’s journey forward, and it looks like the character has quite a journey ahead of him:

Obviously it’s a traumatic event for him, but Clay never lacks self-confidence. Clay overcame every obstacle he encountered. Clay was the leader of the green team. He is one of the best command operators despite being one of the youngest. In the beginning, as with any problem, trust that you can overcome it. But as time goes by and he really starts to understand how much pain has hit him, it starts to seep into every part of his life and this fight for him is really a part of his career this season.

The season premiere was really hard to watch. While Clay seemed to be in a good mood and even downplayed his prognosis when he spoke to Stella, this can definitely change as the season progresses. Although Clay previously told Jason that this mission with Bravo would be his last so he could spend more time with his family, the loss of the leg seems to solidify those plans.

However, Clay is an integral part of Bravo and without him it wouldn’t be the same. (And, of course, he would have missed his love of him with Sonny.) But don’t worry, Spencer Hudnut provided some hopeful thoughts about Max Thiriot’s character staying in the fold in the future:

One of the things that made this story compelling is that there were SEALs who suffered an injury similar to what happened to Clay and underwent new surgery. We didn’t want to do anything that would take him off the table in the future. We didn’t want to do anything completely unbelievable, but the fact that there were operators who managed to recover from such an injury gave us hope to see if Clay and his Bravo colleagues could find another time.

The Bravo Team has been through a lot in recent seasons, so it seems like there’s nothing they can’t handle together. it’s good to hear that team of seals Max Thieriot will not be missing, despite his commitments land of fire.

Season six marks the second of the show on Paramount + and is also his first full season on the streamer. The series has already seen some benefits from switching to airing, as Spencer Hudnut explained that graphic imagery with Clay’s leg may not have been possible on network television. I wonder what else we might see in the future now that the series isn’t subject to any network censorship restrictions. I’ll keep an eye on him and what happens to Clay.

new episodes of team of seals falls on a Sunday, so grab a Paramount + membership and check it out. Also, check out 24 News Bulletin’s 2022 TV lineup to see what else is in this fall TV season.
