We asked Michael B. Jordan about his Superman Val-Zod project and it didn’t go as planned

When it comes to superhero movies, Michael B. Jordan has amassed quite a résumé. After his genre debut playing Cyborg in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradoxmade the leap to live action as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in 2015 Fantastic Fourhe later joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Killmonger to black Panthera brief appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and some live vocals And if… ? series. In 2021, it was reported that Jordan would be returning to DC to work on a Val-Zod Superman project, but when we recently asked the actor about it, it didn’t go as planned.

Gossipify’s Jeff McCobb spoke with Michael B. Jordan on behalf of belief III, which not only sees the actor reprise Adonis Creed, but is also his first film. Naturally, Jordan was open when he spoke about the latest installment Rocky candor, including why he avoided saying “action” and “cut” on set, and how he learned to let go belief III having seen it over 100 times. However, when Jeff simply mentioned the Val-Zod Superman project to Jordan, an off-screen PR rep was quick to say that the topic would not be discussed. So we stopped trying to find out more about this Val-Zod Superman project, but at least Michael B. Jordan commended Jeff for making a “noble attempt” and gave him a thumbs up for his efforts. If you’re not familiar with this item on Jordan’s to-do list, it was originally reported that he was producing the project through his production company Outlier Society and it would be available exclusively to HBO Max subscribers. In October 2021 news broke that Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters had been tapped to write The Val-Zod Project as a miniseries to be distributed exclusively to HBO Max subscribers, but that has yet to be officially confirmed. It has not yet been clarified whether Jordan will play Val-Zod or simply be working on this project behind the scenes.

The Val-Zod incarnation of Superman was introduced in 2014 earth-2 #19, and derives from the title’s alternate continuity rather than the main DC universe that was central to the New 52 era. Like Earth-2’s Kal-El and Kara Zor-El, Val-Zod survived the destruction of Krypton, but after reaching Earth he quickly hid from the outside world. Eventually, the other superheroes on Earth discovered his existence and he became the new Superman, but his vow of pacifism initially prevented him from getting involved in violent situations. Val-Zod has yet to be played outside of the comics, so whether he’s played live-action by Michael B. Jordan or someone else, it’s time for the character to shine onscreen.

Michael B. Jordan has been quiet this time around, but rest assured Gossipify will provide all the important updates on what’s happening with the Val-Zod Superman project. Until then, go to the theater to see Jordan belief IIIor check out upcoming DC movies and upcoming DC TV shows.
