Star Trek: Picard’s Daniel Davis shares his thoughts on Moriarty’s return and possible future appearances

Warning! The following contains SPOILERS for the Star Trek: Picard episode “Bounty”. Read at your own risk!

Star Trek: Picard made many references in the episode “Bounty,” but few were as exciting as the reappearance of the classic villain from the next generation, moriarty. Actor Daniel Davis he reprized his role for a brief scene and was nice enough to talk to Gossipify about returning to the character after a decades absence.

I spoke to Daniel Davis about his comeback as Moriarty and found out that even he didn’t fully understand it until a few days before our conversation. Davis explained what happened after he agreed to return and how he wasn’t entirely sure what was going on with the character Star Trek: Picard During shooting:

All I saw was the pages he was on, and I read the scene and thought, ‘Well, that’s not exactly Moriarty from ‘Next Gen.’ It’s a different version… So when I got to LA, I didn’t have a complete script yet, and I didn’t know what happened after my scene and what I was doing, really… It had meaning to me after I saw it but it didn’t make much sense to me while doing it. But somehow it worked.

As mentioned, Daniel Davis finally got a chance to watch the episode and learned that his Moriarty was actually a clue given riker From Data, who was at the scene. Davis was enjoying the scene and what he was trying to accomplish much more than when he filmed the movie Star Trek: Picard Scene without context.

For those who don’t remember, Moriarty was a holoshow based on the Sherlock Holmes character created to challenge Data. In “Elementary, Dear Data”, Moriarty has become self-aware and Picard vows to find a way for him to live outside the holodeck.

Moriarty is back Star Trek: The Next GenerationPicard’s “Ship In A Bottle” was upset because Picard lied about finding a way to get him out of the holodeck. That wasn’t actually true, but the villain couldn’t be convinced otherwise. The crew must have tricked Moriarty into thinking he left the Agencybut in reality he was trapped in a simulation within a simulation, which was contained in a memory module.

Daniel Davis admitted that before receiving his stage, his mind was filled with possibilities of what was his Star Trek: Picard Could be the bow. The actor spoke about the story he hoped to be a part of that would tie into his own story the next generation:

I created my own little script in my head of what the episode could be like. My hope, or what I fantasized about, was that there was some sort of resolution between Picard and me that wouldn’t break his promises. And he promised he’d find a way to get me out of the holodeck, and he never did. So, I thought, “Okay, the whole Star Trek: Picard series is about revisiting past mistakes and blah blah blah,” but that was on my mind.

Daniel Davis didn’t get the meeting with Patrick Stewart he was hoping for, and I’m sure some who watched with their Paramount+ subscription felt the same way. Unfortunately, Jean-Luc Picard was also working on a rescue plan to save Riker. wolf AND Raffi, so there was no chance for the two to meet. Of course, it really wouldn’t have mattered if they had, because again it wasn’t the real Moriarty.

While Daniel Davis hasn’t had the chance to properly reprise his role, he’s certainly open to the possibility if that happens in the future. Davis has been mulling the possibility of appearing in another upcoming one star Trek series or even another season of picardy if it’s in the cards:

Even though this is presumably the last season of Star Trek: Picard and Patrick said at one point that they’re done with Picard and said “Never say never” at another, there’s always the possibility. One of the producers told me that Moriarty is one of those characters that can appear anywhere. And so, there are so many incarnations of Star Trek right now. He may appear in Strange New Worlds! What could be weirder than that?

He would have remarked that it would be difficult for a holodeck character to make an appearance in the COUGH It was from star Trek, but Daniel Davis is right. Hell, lower decks AND strange new worlds are they going to have a crossover next season, so is it that hard to believe something like this could happen?

More realistically, it seems much more likely that we will see Davis in one of the other shows or even one picardy divided. While nothing definitive is in the works right now, many of the cast are campaigning for the story to continue beyond that. There are certainly more stories to tell if that’s the case, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Watch new episodes of Star Trek: Picard Thursdays on Paramount+ (opens in a new tab). With the season officially halfway through, it’s a great time to review the best episodes so far and speculate where the rest of this season is headed.
