To create this character, Dastmalchian read extensively about the real Albert DeSalvo, including letters he sent to prison because “it’s a good look at a person’s psychology.” He also studied the late killer’s physique and voice in an effort to “maintain the way he spoke” and “the way he acted.”
And while Dastmalchian plays the titular character in Matt Ruskin’s true crime thriller, he made sure to point out that this isn’t just a story about a serial killer, nor a story about moments of terrifying violence.
